The Full Bracket

How they determine that bracket is very complicated. I think it involves sheep, wind currents and solar bombardment. No, wait, that was my scheme for world domination via solar powered sheep breeding satellites which drop the dropping on my enemies as calculated by air currents. Nevermind.

This contest is just all about popularity, but I like it.

The big challenge is knowing who will win each battle before you vote.

Tomorrow is a good example of this, a hard call. I think duck hunt and super mario bros will advance, but they could split their votes and lose to a dedicated fanbase of the other games.

Voted for Super Mario Brothers today... just like everyone else. Poor Duck Hunt never had a chance.

Well I voted Duck Hunt, just like I voted Dragon Warrior 3 today. I probably should have voted metroid instead. Zelda is one of the games I would like to see win the whole thing though.

It's pretty clear that Zelda (runner up) and Mario (winner) are the winners of this bracket.

I really hope FFVII falls before the later rounds. It wasn't really that good a game. It wasn't actually much fun to play, the character sprites were distressingly low quality, the translation was dodgy and it spawned a legion of dumb fangirls. Plus, it's position in this contest means Suikoden lacks any chance of leaving the first round, and probably doomed Starfox 64 too.

While I'm happy to see Suikoden and Disgaea make the list, the massive console bias is annoying. No X-Com? No Sam and Max? Not a single Sierra Quest series game, even in the 80's bracket? Fallout 3 rather than Fallout or Fallout 2!? WTF?

As far as console bias goes, the fact is that the vast majority of really popular games were for consoles. Check out this list for best selling video games - Most of the popular games are for consoles, or these days, consoles and PC.

Perhaps, but when Mega Man 3, Crystalis and freaking Streets of Rage 2 make the list and neither X-Com nor a single Quest game do, with the only adventure game being Secret of Monkey Island (which does deserve it). Where's Manic Mansion or Day of the Tentecle, even? And don't forget the lack of Baldur's Gate II and Planescape: Torment. Heck, not even any of the Ultimas made it. The lack of all those games and series screams bias to me.

PC adventure games were a dime a dozen, and most of them sucked terribly.

The few gems were more like pieces of copper in a swamp of terrible releases.

The game I miss on the list is ZZT.

Ah, sweet sweet ZZT.

I admit it's not nearly as popular as the rest of the entries in the bracket though ^^.

They should have tried to stick to 1 game per series, with very few exceptions. I would have axed Super Mario Bros 3, and Megaman 3, and Final Fantasy 2 for this reason. Only exceptions would be things like zelda could have LoZ and OoT, as they are a decade apart and radically different games.

Platform games were a dime a dozen, and most of them sucked terribly. In some ways I'm agreeing with you; if SMB 3 and Mega Man 3 made it, more than just Monkey island should have. If those two were axed and replaced with an Ultima and some other PC game, I wouldn't be nearly as annoyed.

Since I was in the area yesterday, I randomly decided to vote. I cast it for Civilization. ^^

honestly with retro games... i would bet that more then half the voters haven't played any of them.

so all it ends up being with those is which ones did you vote for to win the round, or selective favoritism based on recent titles related to those games.
the anti-thesis of myself... come see, feel, know the truth beyond truths it'll just cost your soul.....
Overlords+Magic+Tropes=TF TG and flying jigglypuffs... among other things

By the looks of today's current battle, both Halo and GTA3 are going to be knocked out in round 1!

Surprising.
