Bad plot devices

I think I've done something like this before, who knows when... Let's do it again, anyway. ;/

(There's a possibility for spoilers, so don't read the plot device if you see a series that you haven't seen yet and would not like anything spoiled!)

Of course, this one's right off my bat. Perhaps again. Its horror haunts me till this day.

Anime/manga series: Fushigi Yugi

Plot device: Yui, a virgin, is told that she was raped (while she was unconscious). And... Somehow believed it despite there being no evidence of a rape. I don't think it takes a genius (and she's supposed to be a smart girl) to know that some thing's different down there or not, even (or perhaps especially) when a girl is a virgin. The problem with this is that the majority of the story wouldn't have happened had she realized the truth in the beginning. And, honestly, I really don't see how she couldn't have realized it... Seriously. No way. Or, at least, not in her case.

Okay, it's your turn. ;/

There are ways to give up that obvious visual sign of virginity without actually losing it to another person.

That's not the point that I was making. If it's non-consensual, and rough, we're talking about injury, or soreness and/or discharge at the very least. I think that makes it clear enough, so let's not talk about this stuff anymore. Really, "rape" should have been all that needed to be said.

i find the spider man zomg magic retcon fix but not really everything plot device is far worse (see or don't see the One More Day spider man arc)

I can see someone not entirely knowing whether it happened on the Yui subject

My feeling on the ZOMG the Devil destroyed their marrage is that it is most out of character for the DEVIL

Yeah, if Yui had been a vegetable, or in a coma. Honest to God...

It's probably a good thing that I don't read Spiderman. I understand American comics less than Japanese. ;/

Okay, I have another one.

Anime (haven't read the manga): Kashimashi

Plot device: Yasuna can't "see" males. The love triangle pretty much hinges on this, even though she had at first rejected Hazamu as a male. But it also contributes to her decision to accept Hazumu as a girl, in a romantic sense, which in turn incites Tomari to take the same route. I just don't understand how something so ridiculously silly can be used for the development of the most serious and important aspects of the story.

There is this book I have to read called "Pertend you don't see her". The book pisses me off. Half the shit that happens in that book wouldn't of happened if the bumbass women sucked it up and didn't tell every other person she was in the witness protection program.
