Wild Arms

Wild Arms is one of the few series I've actually managed to follow, and by follow I mean have enough interest in it to buy a game in the series when I have the money.

The first one brings back memories. I still think it's the best one, since its story and length were both more than acceptable. It also has a nice soundtrack. The Alter Code: F version was alright, but it somehow didn't seem as good. On the plus side I was able to use Jane Maxwell and Zed as playable characters, so I guess that's something. For some reason there's always been a special place in my heart for Zed. ;p

The second one didn't really interest me. By now, as I look back, I can only really remember Marivel Armitage fondly. She was a secret character with no real affect on the main plot, but I found her charming regardless. I guess it was the whole Crimson Noble thing. ;/

The third is my favorite. I'd probably say that it is also the best one if not for the likelihood of the first laying at least some of the ground work for it. It's been a while, so I'd have to play it again to see if I remember if that's correct. Anyway, I just loved the cel-shaded characters, I thought the characters were all highly customizable to ones wants and needs, and the soundtrack wasn't too bad, either. The story was also nice, and when you thought it was all over... Oh, noes! XD

I'm still trying to forget the fourth one. I dunno... It just rubbed me the wrong way. The story didn't interest me, and this whole thing about kids and adults seemed retarded. The new battlefield tactics was a decent change from standard, I guess, but the characters weren't as customizable as before, which, to me, is among the biggest drags in any game.

The fifth seemed to pick up the same attitude as the fourth, and also had a childish air to it that made me gag. The story, as far as I got, was meh. (The extra stuff before the final boss got too tedious, so I dropped the game.) I think it's better than the fourth, but I'm not exactly sure why. Must be because of Rebecca and Avril; two cute girls that are actually good in battle. ;/

So, yeah... It's the first and third, for me. Okay, your turn. Or something like that.

I enjoyed the first one the most out of all the games in the series. Alter Code F feels like pulling teeth to me as my main heavy in combat is severely neutered in that version of the game. Jack was my main damage dealer and now in this version I might as well put him on the sidelines once I pick up other members? Not happy.

I also enjoyed the second Wild Arms due to the transformation of the hero in the later half of the game and the fact that it still resembled the first one a lot. I also loved Marivel and the whole Crimson Noble thing.

Never finished the third one as I got stuck at a certain point about halfway through on the rental and haven't played through to that point again yet on my purchased copy. To be honest, I didn't like the third one so much because everyone used an ARM that could only be modified. I have to have equipment to purchase and change out or I'm not happy. Haven't touched 4 yet either to be honest. Played through only a tidbit of 5 and I can already tell I like it better than what I saw of 4 when my little brother was playing it.

The lack of equipment didn't really bother me. In the vast majority of RPGs it's not like your outfit changes when you change your outfit, anyway.

Sadly my only run in with Wild Arms is the first one. Which I never beat.

See it was my roomates copy, and I ended up moving out half-way through the game. Fast forward a year or two later and I find a copy for sale at a Blockbuster and quickly snatch it up.

Only to discover that I have NO idea what I was doing last I played the game, nor did I remember what I had already done, or really any of the storyline. It just wasn't that memerable. :/

So I frankly didn't bother to continue. Instead it's been put on my "someday" list of games to play.

I think the only 'series' of RPGs I've actually kept fairly up to date with is Final Fantasy. For the exception of 10, I played all the games that came out. (Not including the 'real' final fantasys 2 and 3, or 5)

Oddly enough, I enjoy the Tales series much more, but have at this moment only beaten like three of the games in the series.

I liked 4, though some of the dialogue was pretty bad and the story was somewhat short for a Wild Arms game. The battle system and the time stop/sidescroller stuff more then made up for it to me. Also, Jude's weapon was pretty cool.
Hmm.... Does anyone actually read these anyway?

hmm i beat 1-3 and never really bothered with 4 or 5 as they got pretty bad reviews.

Fun series though god thinking about it the characters aren't rememberable in the slightest, all i remeber are little pieces of each of the games like main story events and even then it's all a blur. The main thing i remeber is that series had the most insane special bosses 'Ragna-Ragu' to the point that the only way to beat the one in the first game is to spam the auto-revive equip, while the one in the 3rd game is like a 4 hour + boss fight.

I never had much of a problem with Ragu Ragla in the first one. But I didn't bother with him in the third since, while I'm up for challenging fight, just getting to him was too discouraging to try. That's just asking too much of me to bother. ;/ (And I think it's like that for the fourth and fifth, too; and I never bothered with him in those games, either.)

I've only played the 1st Wild ARMs and it's remake although I'm still looking for the second and the third. The thing I really like about the original is the soundtrack especially Zed's boss theme and Whistle of the Warrior. Maybe it's just me though but I actually like the remake just as much as the original even if the game stops getting challenging after getting the Gatling Gun. Still its awesome that you get to use Zed in the party even if it is only at the end of the game.

Yeah, I like those two songs, as well.

The remake of the first was alright, with the addition of new characters to use in battle, but I didn't like how the battle system was changed. I would have preferred it to remain the same. I mean, because you don't even get badges to help customize the characters. That's why I like the battle system for Wild Arms 3 best, because of how much you could customize the characters.
