There wasn't a topic for this, already? You should be ashamed.
Okay, maybe not.
Yes.
Also: it's interesting. I hope it doesn't lead to epic fail.

As of episode 8 it seems to be building to a great conclusion. With strong visuals, audio and plot it's probably the best of the season. (Or maybe Horou Musuko, though they're so different it's hard to compare them.)
A wonderful deconstruction of the magical girl genre.

For me, the only thing that's really new about it is that the main heroine doesn't become a magical girl in the first episode. Or the second. Or the third. Or the fourth... Or even in the latest episode. It's the first time I've encountered it.
As for best in the season... My preference leans more toward comedies. Speaking of which...

But Kyubey is just so wonderfully funny!

Nuh-uh! He/she/it stares like a dullard!
Though he/she/it looks fine when given human form in fan-art. :3
And being pumped full of holes was a nice look, too. ;p

What you call dullard, I call amazing poker face. Though the holes were quite good.

Poker face? It barely has enough features to be called a face! XD
Oh, and it was cute when it OM NOM NOMed itself. A cannibalistic magical girl guardian/adviser/mascot is fine, too.

And so is Mephistopheles! Seriously, what other magical girl series is based on Faust?
Incidentally, this thread now seems to contain major spoilers.

Well, I wouldn't say that it's Faustian. Not quite, anyway. I guess it depends on one's interpretation of it. If it turns out that becoming a magical girl -- by its very nature -- is more of a disadvantage than a benefit, then I'll readily agree.
Wait, it does? When did that happen!? :O Well, it's not like we really have to worry about something like that. Considering how we're the only ones posting in the topic, and how half of the views are ours, most of the other views were probably early and disinterested people, with perhaps one person following along up to this point out of curiosity. *Nods sagely*

It's pretty intentionally invoked Faust in at least three or four distinct places.
Also: Though a lot of it still seems to be speculation:

Hmmmm... Well, it's possible, then. I'm not well read with Faust, only knowing the bare bones of it, so I can't really argue against those who know more about it than I do. The time-space traveling bit (Homura) leaves me wondering, though.

Oh, I doubt it's a complete copy, but they've definitely invoked it a few times now, so I think it's pretty safe to call it a source of inspiration if nothing else.

Hmm.... Episode 10 was my favorite so far. And since it made me like Homura, I'm willing to bet she's going to die in 11.

I've been eyeballing this series for a while now, considering if I want to bother with it or not. Mostly because I've heard conflicting things about it. So, tell me about it. :O
