"Need.... Pills....."

.... Is all Ash can say as she slowly makes her way to a nearby table and leans on it with shaking arms. The pain in her head is intense now; it's becoming difficult for her to even think.

Surge nods. "We'll have to see if we can contact the nearest base, it should be hard, but not imposible". Surge turns towards Gary. "How long have you been living here?"
"Let me confirm, your shelter shield is activated?"
"What are you planning?!"
"Your shelter is secure, is it?"
"Of course it is! Just see for yourself how powerless you are!"
"...Roger that."

Gary was about to answer the questions until Ash started clutching her head, "Right...Aspirin..." he rummaged through the medicine cabinet and pulled out some Ibuprofen. "Here take this, you should be good in twenty minutes. Lay down on my bed." he gestured toward and got a cup of water from the sink. Only after he gave the cup to Ashton did he answer Surge's question, "I've been here for a year, maybe a little bit less." he stood up from his chair (which there were a couple more apart from his own) and showed Julian and Surge the radio, "We can determine where the nearest base is for you guys...but I can't let anyone know where I am by contacting them." he seemed a little sad at the statement but he did need to keep his privacy.

"Thats fine... you have helped enough as it is just by bringing us here... Anyway we should do that and then get out of here. I am sure you dont want us bothering you... that and we have, heh, interesting things to tell the Command."

"I-I don't know who to believe now. I am not even a real girl. I was born Male. I've had so many things done to me that I don't even know what I am now." Alana sighed.

"I-I don't know what to do. I can't go back to the boys, I can't go back to the girls, not without Rachel anyway. I will be treated just as badly as I was when I first got there if I go back without Rachel. They will kill me if I don't come back with Rachel. I won't be coming back with Rachel if I go back. She will not want to come back." Alana said.

"Thanks, but if I may ask another question... Why didn't you join the war effort?" asked Surge as he inspected the radio.
"Let me confirm, your shelter shield is activated?"

Gary shrugged, "I've been here without company for months. It's been nice to talk to people who aren't hostile around me." he looked over to Surge as if he might have slapped him with some odd fish before remembering his place and calming down, "I was in the war effort...I WAS the war effort, me and my unit. If you haven't noticed, the boys haven't been very offensive this last year...there's a reason behind that fact." he said, once again looking into the middle distance as if lost in nostalgia for a second.

Sariah groaned, "Believe who YOU are. You're not one of these animals, you're certainly not a boy, but by throwing your lot in with these...beasts...you've denied all chance of you returning with honor to the girls. I'm sure one of those mindless stormtroopers noticed you on the defensive line and ran back to report! You've gotten yourself into a difficult situation, and if you are not strong, you will probably not last much longer on the battlefield." with that she reached into her suit coat and pulled a Desert Eagle and shot Alana in the leg. The pain seared into her shin and the bits and pieces of skin and flesh wisped away as if smoke. "You can't be weak. You can't trust those around you...they'll only betray you. I can teach you everything you need to know to survive and become more powerful." she tossed the still smoking gun to the ground in front of Alana.

Ash was hoping for the entire bottle instead of a few measly pills, but....

"Thanks." Ash says hastily after popping the pills and taking a sip of water from the cup Gary gave her. A few minutes later, she's on the bed and out like a light.

"So you want me to go back without my best friend? Wait a minute. Is Anna okay? She was the other girl that respected me. So is Rachel lost?" Alana asked as she was holding her wound.

"Will I have this wound in real life?" Alana asked.

(waiting for someone to use the metaphorical spur on Gary's horse of a story with a question of some sort "How'd THAT happen Grandpa??")

(Ha! Ken's the winner!!)

Gary shakes himself from his nostalgia, "Well...you've all heard the rumors of the Alpha squadron that acheived the first few victories of the war. Those few boys who infiltrated the girl's budding empire and formed the foundation of the boys' resistance. It started in San Francisco...as a meager defense line. The boys I gathered started out as a rag-tag, jury-rigged unit sent to defend our first line of defense. There, they destroyed the biggest threat to our retaliation, a massive armored suit. One of the boys..." Gary paused a moment, "...managed to sneak a detcharge onto its back. God he was stupid..." a smile broke on his face, "But with that, our victory was assured." he paced the floor a bit before sitting in the chair, "That was the first time the girls' transformation technology became known to us. It was a sort of slime in some forms and a smoke in the other...none of this insiduous bullet lacing. It was completely painless for the most part, but the second it touched you, you were tainted. Their bullets were basically concentrated powder that scattered on impact. Inhaling it was always the first mistake..."

"Once we returned, we discovered the intent of the girls' war of conversion rather than destruction. The boys' teamwork on the battlefield earned them Alpha status and they were the appointed squadron to get what needed to be done done." Gary looked off into the empty room with boxes lining the wall as he said it, "The next mission was to get a presumed antidote...but that mission ended up disastrous."

He shrugged, "It's been a long time since I've talked about it...but afterwards I reached my twentieth birthday. To that end, I don't know of anyone else that's escaped from the reapers." he smiled again, hoping there would be some expressions from that statement, "After that we ended up at an abandoned mall where a sort of primitive society was budding. It was a matriarchal society that maintained the girls' opinion of dominance but treated boys as breeding stock or manual laborers. Underneath, was a stasis factory. You won't hear about them now, they've been blocked from what I've heard. If you've ever wondered where your parents went, that's where; stuck in stasis...if the power sources have still held. If not, you'll find nothing but empty shells filled with basic rage, like zombies but look like your relatives." he sighed as he remembered the twisted faces of those that had broken from their capsules. "We knew that something was going on after that...that some outside power had arranged this, like some cheery school experiment."

"With our news we returned to the base. I had been hit with what you now call FemmeX and had transformed at a relatively quick rate. The authority I had gained as the director of Alpha Squad was quickly drawn away from me...my own army, the side I fought for, sought out to interrogate me and kill me. If it weren't for Alpha Squad, I'd be dead now."

"It was obvious we couldn't go back. So we threw in our lot and went to investigate this greater power...another apparent fact from my presence here is we didn't succeed...and I haven't seen them since. Some died, others suffered a fate worse than that...The details after are a little fuzzy. But I made it back...and I've decided to stay out of the affairs and watch the war."

***
Sariah shook her head, "No! You're asleep! This is all a construction of your mind to make you a better, powerful person!" she seemed more than angry for a moment until she simmered down a bit, "Your friends will be fine...wherever they might end up, I'm sure. But you need to focus on yourself...When the time comes, and you're in this same state...you won't be able to save your friends."

Julian remains silent for awhile... he had heard bits and pieces of that story... but to have it all laid out by someone who was actually there was something else.

One thing nags his mind, though. "Wait... you said you had been transformed, right? Funny, you dont look like a girl..."
