The group rode, though the camp, past the fleeing soldiers and over the sands as fast as their stolen steeds could carry them. Leading them was Garath and Naarsa, behind rode Alex and Alana on one horse, Asylintha and Mabala on another and Lyon at the back on the last. They charged forwards towards the quickly vanishing gap in the wall of churning sand, inside which they could now see great, looming monstrous shapes, nightmares that scarcely touch the world's surface, always lingering just below.
As they ran, Garath could see they were not going to make it, they had lost too much time.
"Oh Hell!!" he cried as the noose drew tighter and tighter, "We arn't all going to get through! We're going to have to pull back!
"Wait" yelled Naarsa, her focus drawn and her arms pulsing with dark blue sparks. In a flourish she finished her spell, an inferno of crimson flames engulfing the sand in front of them, and the walls closing in on her escape. Just as quickly as they had appeared the flames vanished leaving in their wake beautiful and wild columns of seemingly natural glass which glistened in the sun as it rapidly cooled and set. Inside the glass, now clearly dead, were bizarre worm-like creatures and strange leather skinned giant leeches.
"Thats amazing...." whistled Garath
"This should buy us some time" gasped Naarsa, catching her breath, "Go before we loose that too!"
