The groups took some thought to decide on the groups (OOC: it did and all, that's what the delay was at first, I couldn't think of how the teams should go...) but eventually it was decided that the right hand group would be Naarsa, Garath, Mabala and Asylintha while the left-hand team was Lyon, Landara, Merk, Alana and Alex.

The group moved silently through the sands until just ahead a gap in the sheer cliffs opened in front of them. It was at this point that the party separated, each taking their assigned positions and maneuvering so they would not be spotted, or at least did so as much as they could upon the featureless dunes. The only exception to this was Merk, who led the horses alone, waiting to meet up with the rest of his team when he set them on their way through the chasm as bait.

The pass was silent save the soft moan of the wind, almost carrying the echoes of the hell the travellers had left almost in their wake. But such guilts would have to wait as the plans for the trap were lain. At the base of the right cliff Naarsa prepared herself for the task ahead of her.

"Ok, I'll have to use some elemental spells to get us up the cliff." she said, "I'm not that good with them, wind in particular so I will only be able to do one person at a time, two if I really try. Who's going up first?"

Meanwhile, at the left-hand entrance the group took cover at the edge of the rock face which only half a meter down vanished into the ascending path. The route was strewn with outcrops and cover points which could be used to their advantage. All that remained was to take positions and wait for the signal.

"This path is only wide enough for two people." said Landara, "We need to decide which order we go up. Does anyone here have something to use as a shield of some sort?"

"I guess I could create a shield made out of Wind, but I don't know how long that will hold." Alana said.

"I'll go with Alana. However we still don't know if her Wind shield will protect us for very long. Anyone have any other ideas?" Alex said.

Asylintha thinks. " We also could shoot some arrows up with ropes attacked and climb up."

Mabala nods. " Might be safer to do that then with untrusted wind magic."

"So does anyone have any better ideas then what I suggested?" Alana asked.

"Someone want to suggest an alternative?" Alex asked.

"If you think that would work" said Naarsa

"How about you bring us two up" said Garath, "so while those two climb, we can make sure they are not cut down."

"Ok" said Naarsa, "I'll try."

Garath put a hand on the girl's shoulder. "You can do this" he said, "I've seen you do far more impressive things than this, it should be easy for you."

Naarsa smiled at him gratefully, "Thank you"

"Ok," said Landara, "Alana, if you could improvise a wind barrier and I shoot anyone who tries to attack then we should be able to get up safely. With any luck if we wait shortly after the others go up, we should have a diversion on our side as well."

Merk released the horses into the mouth of the valley. It almost looked as though it were alive, ready to swallow up anyone and anything that tried to pass. Hoping the best of fortune to the weary animals, he left them to their fate and headed towards the left-hand side of the passage.

When he arrived he found the rest of the group preparing themselves.

"Do we all know the plan?" he asked, "We have to be off in 50 seconds. I'll signal to the other group at 30."

"I'm as ready as I'll ever be" said Landara, drawing her bow.

Asylintha nods. " Ok." She pulls out a rope and dies it onto an arrow.

Mabala follows her lead. "good luck." They both fire their arrows up.

All seemed quiet as Garath scoured the horizon for signs of the signal to start. It seemed like an eternity as the seconds passed by like minutes until there was something. A flash of light from the sun on a reflective surface. It was the signal.

"Alright!" said Garath, "Let's do this!"

Her eyes closed in concentration, Naarsa gathered her will as the air around her picked up. Soon a small but fierce tornado raged around her, lifting herself and Garath off the ground. It was rather unsettling, being hoisted into the air by the air itself, but Garath managed to deal with it while Naarsa was too lost in her concentration to pay it any mind. After a few seconds they reached the top, unnoticed by the men who were looking at the lone horses crossing the valley. With the jolt the pair were both send forwards, Garath getting his footing and Naarsa falling to her knees.

It was around this point that they were spotted, but for the man who did, it was too late as a knife lodged itself in his throat. The man next to hit looked on in surprise, but was cut short when a sword burst through his chest from behind, piercing his heart. Before long 3 men lay dead and the others were in confusion at the sudden attack.

Back at the cliff, Naarsa steadied herself enough to look over the edge and signal for the other to climb up.

OOC: Ok, we are going to have a couple posts on this side then things will get moving over there. Just hang tight, you may need to.

Asylintha and Mabala climb up to the top as quick as they can and pull themselves up with their arms hurting. " " that hurt my arms." Asylintha complains.

Mabala smiles. " I'm use to it. It was part of my training so lets continue."

Naarsa staggered to her feet; the fatigue of getting herself up subsiding. A few meters away, Garath fought off a pair of bandits as more began to organise themselves. The element of surprise was wearing off fast and they were quite outnumbered.

Suddenly a glint of light caught her eye as two arrows were launched in her direction. With a squeal she held her arms in front of her and the arrows stopped mid flight. Apparently she has subconsciously used a basic telekinesis spell, which had just saved her life. She gasped in relief but had little time to relish it as the bandits aimed at them once more. With a flick her her hands the arrows turned around and returned in the direction they had come from, one hitting an archer in the eye, the other in the stomach.

Picking up her staff which she had dropped upon landing, Naarsa turned to the pair behind her.

"I think you know what we need to do." she said

Mabala nods. " No mercy."

Asylintha giggles. " Yup no mercy for those who do not give it." Both lock and load.
