Although the group could not see it due to the masks and lack of visible mouths, the sages smiled.
"We thank you, young ones" they said in unison, "We shall once more open the path to the void but now you shall find youself on The Path, which lingers above the wreakage of the old world. When you reach the crossroads you shall find your conterparts, excluding you two." at the end one of the masks jestured to Minako and Asylintha.
The sages circled the group in a shadow-mask-shadow-mask order and rotated, spinning faster and faster until light drenched the group and they found themselves standing on a bridge over the abyss. The road ahead of them was long and featureless and below them was a vast expanse of broken lands, long dead ruins and an all-permeating stench of death.
Long they travelled until as last the reach a place where they were joined by three other paths. Standing in the center, the group beheld shimmering clouds of light dance ahead and behind until the grouped together to form the ghostly shapes of people.
Hylian
Garath looked back as a voice called his name. In front of him stood an old man of Twili descent. His long silver hair shimmered and his tall frame still displayed a sense of power dispite his age, covered in a veil of control and delicacy.
"Garath" he said in a pale, whispering voice, "I am Rath, the sun-dancer. I was once the elder of the Village of Dawn and gained my title from my art of walking atop the light."
"So you are my counterpart?" asked Garath
"Indeed" said Rath, "I had forgotten the ignorance of the young and the living." he laughed to himself, "I also miss it fondly"
"What happens now?" asked Garath
"I shall grant my spirit unto you" said Rath, "Take my power and use it wisely"
The old man shimmered for a second before he collapsed into a grey mist which drifted towards Garath, engulfing him. Inside the cloud Garath could feel his arms and legs become slim and graceful. His torso also became slimmer and his hair lengthened with a single grey lock emerging on his right side. His mass lessened and he stumbled as his centre of gravity shifted according to his new build. Oddly enough, dispite the lessened muscle mass, Garath barely felt any difference in strength and he felt a great calm come over him, dispelling his fear and doubts. The cloud thinned and the calm receded back into his mind, waiting for another time.
As the mist left Garath the echoing voice of Rath drifted forwards once more. "Looks like I can go for a rest now" he said, "don't go getting youself killed, you're far too young to be hanging around us old type." and with one last chuckle, the old man faded away.
Twili
Naarsa looked ahead to see a veil of white dots materialise in front of him. Before long he could see the shape of a person step forwards. Stepping out of the cloud was a slender young girl who looked barely past the age of 14. Her delicate and beautiful face framed by long tawny hair and set with wide eyes of dark green.
"You?" asked Naarsa, "You're my counterpart?"
"Yes" said the girl, her voice was rich and full of life, dispite her being dead. "I am Lynn of the tree, orphan of the Kokiri."
"But why a girl?" said Naarsa, "Why can't I stay who I am?"
"There is a reason for everything" said Lynn, "and although it may be painful for you now, you shall be able to look back at this with joy."
The girl smiled and twirled around. As she spread out her arms ghostly leaves appeared around her, twirling like butterflies and drifted towards the stunned form of Naarsa. As the leaves darted around him, Naarsa's mind was filled with childish joy and for the first time in as long as he could remember, he felt completely free. His body rippled and twisted as his arms and legs slimmed, the muscle that had started to develop fading and the thin layer of pubescent hair that coated them exaporated away. His body shrank slightly and his legs lengthened by the same ammount. The hair on his head lengthened a bit and grew darker in colour while his face grew softer and the recently emerging signs of male aduldhood were replaced by female features. His torso took on contours as his waist slimmed, his hips flared and his chest grew out into a pair of size B breasts. As a finale his manhood vanished and several of his organs shifted and reconfigured until Naarsa was fully and completely female.
Lost in wonder and disbelief, Naarsa looked as Lynn held something out to her. "Take this" she said, putting the thing in Naarsa's hand. "It's something that was passed down in my family."
Naarsa looked down and saw a very well made dagger in a pure black sheaf. She could sense the age of the knife and could feel a bizarre lack of magic it. She looked up again and saw Lynn smiling at her before she turned away and skipped into the sky, laugher echoing behind her.

"So you are Landara"
Landara turned around to find a strange, grey skinned being. It was thin and bald but a long fin fell from it's head to give the illusion of hair. It's torso was such that it gave no specific gender and it's limbs were thin and streamlined. The creature's face was almost childing but set with dark blue eyes that could peirce through anything they observed.
"A Zora?" wondered Landara, "No, you're not like any Zora I've ever seen."
"True" said the being, "But then I have never seen one such as you. I am Harma, of the aquatic Merna. I was once my village's expert hunter but alas in the end braved far too dangerous prey."
"You're part of me?" asked Landara.
"Not really no." said Harma, "I am linked with you, yes, but not part of you, not yet."
"But you will be, right?" asked Landara.
"Yes," said Harma, "If you wish to accept my gift"
"Yes," said Landara, "I do."
The Merna gestured towards Landara and her ears were filled with the sound of waves, her mind with clear images of a seabed glittered with glowing stones and her eyes saw what shoudl have been far beyond her capacity to see. Visibly there was little in the way of change, however internally Landara's bones altered to become as light and strong as a Merna's cartilage and her legs gained the strength to push her through the water with ease.
As she opened her eyes she saw Harma floating in the air, a long harpoon in their hand. "Use my gift well" it said, "use it with pride."
"Thank you" said Landara, "But I must ask one thing."
"Go ahead." said Harma. "What are you?" asked Landara, "Male or female?"
Herma shook it's head. "Land dwellers" it said, "Always so shallow. Such divides are irrelevant so as such we do without them."
With those words Herma hurled the harpoon which Landara caught with startlingly fast reaction-time and 'swam' away from the crossroads and onto the great expanse that awaited.
