Mythos: Genesis

Postby muffinstud » Mon Oct 06, 2008 5:22 pm

The Raina Bella. A beautiful ship if ever there was one. The pride of Getaways Cruise Lines, this bright shining behemoth lumbers silently across the tranquil blue waters of the Pacific. Much louder than the ship are the 2,000 some odd people aboard her, passengers and crew. They turn the watertight hulk of steel and rivets into something much more. The Raina Bella is a self-contained city, complete with all the necessities and luxuries one would expect to find on a world-class ship.

Easily seen from the outside is the olympic-sized swimming pool, diving boards, and water slide on the bow-ward deck. On the other side of the captain's tower is a stern-side tennis court (with half-court basketball lines and a hoop) and the obligatory shuffleboard courts. Linking these two play centers is a wide boardwalk with plenty of lounge chairs perfect for sunbathing or enjoying the breeze. Below decks a small movie theater can be found, along with another dinner theatre that features the nightly performance of a magician, lounge singer, and a group of traditional polynesian dancers. Many other entertainment rooms abound, from a penny arcade to a karaoke bar. A five star restaurant supplies the dinner theater and a grand dining room where all meals are provided. And this is simply the beginning. The offerings of this Beautiful Queen truly have no end, and at times can boggle the mind.

The boat, after leaving the island of Tonga the night before, is currently between ports and is on it's way to the various islands of the American Samoa. Only 3 days out from it's home port of Auckland, New Zealand (airfare was provided for any Yanks out there), there is still much promise and wonder to be had on this wonderful girl. Various port trips are still to come, from diving in coral reef lagoons, to swimming with dolphins, to authentic feasts among the Samoan people, the fun has yet to truly begin.

Also yet to begin, is our story. The multiple protagonists of this tale will find the hour to be 5 in the evening. The perfect time to plan a dinner date, enjoy a film or show, enjoy a swim or a game of HORSE before the sun dips into the sea. The choices are open and free, just like the breeze on deck.

(Okay, let the games begin! You can start anywhere aboard the ship, and pretty much do whatever you want. I'd like somewhere around two rounds of posts to establish where everyone is, if someone knows someone else, all that jive. And have fun!! It's a cruise ship for crying out loud!)

*Tyler sits in a chair near the pool, looking somehow out of place. Is it because he has an open laptop in his lap? Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that he's fully dressed. Either way, he really sticks out.* *sigh* Man, why couldn't they just let me stay inside?

Nick sat back on his lounge chair, enjoying the ocean air. Gotta love being on vacation he thinks to himself. Wonder what I'll do tonight. Maybe catch one of the shows they've got going on... He then stands up and stretches. "Eh, may as well see whats going on below deck." he mumbles to himself as he heads toward the nearest stairway that leads below deck.

Thanks to some connections Matt's uncle had he was able to enjoy much of the ships luxaries without having to pay at the spot. After having a kings breakfast, playing in the arcade, catching a movie...twice and lossing most of his earnings to the slot machines, Matt decided to catch a meal. So after fighting with the front desk clerk about how stupid the "dress code" is and a bit of whining, he was able to get inside. It was filled with alot of people, probably most of them rich snobs. He felt kind of out of place, but he didn't give it much thought. Matt sat down near a window looking out over the pools. After sitting down he hit his head on the table.

"At the rate im going, im gonna end up broke... I swear those slots were rigged! I was soo close to hitting the jackpot. Gah!!! ... No matter, i'll try fixing my economic problem later after I fill up with some grub!" said Matt as he eagerly took the menu that was on the table.
"Let me confirm, your shelter shield is activated?"
"What are you planning?!"
"Your shelter is secure, is it?"
"Of course it is! Just see for yourself how powerless you are!"
"...Roger that."

Hikaru let out a soft sigh as he stared out into the ocean from the balcony in his room. The ship was nice and everything, but he just couldn't get himself to enjoy the trip. The food, the people, the fact that he was all alone and free to do anything by himself.... None of it excited him. What's wrong with him? Even a cruise can't knock him out of his boredom?

"Ugh.... Maybe I need to walk around a bit. There's got to be something on this ship that'll spark my interest...." He mutters to himself as he leaves his room and begins to roam around the hallways of the ship. He doesn't have a certain destination in mind; if something looks interesting, he'll go for it.

Andy rushes around several people on the basketball court without a shirt on, evidently showing off to several girls in their bathing suits his basketball skills. With unerring skill, he slips like a cat around the other players. He's just about to make the lay-up of a lifetime... when he steps on his shoelace and faceplants with a resounding crash. A lot of the girls laugh, some look a bit concerned, and others just look away. The guys he was playing with laugh as well, but a few bend down to help him back up.
"You alright, man?" one askes with a huge grin on his face.
"Well, my pride will never be the same..." Andy replies stiffly. He brushes his thick black hair out of his eyes and rubs his left cheek, where he landed.

Zander sits in the ship's theater, waiting for the movie to start (I'll let muffin decide what movies the ship has to offer XD). He has a soda, and a box of cookie dough bites.

Smiling, he is amused by the previews... he had always been too busy working to see movies in the theaters, and he probably wouldnt see these when they came out either.

Kris Moljins was one of the basketball players who saw Andy fall over. He was on Andy's team in the pick up game..."Hey, are you okay? Want to take a break and get something to drink?" He then places his gold medallion in his light blue shirt, now sweaty. "I think I'm going to get showered before dinner..."

As Tyler sits there, a beautiful brunette in a white bikini complete with a see-through flowery sash on her hips, sun hat and overly large sunglasses sits on the lounge chair next to him. Actually, sit isn't elegant enough, she positions herself in the chair, removes her sun hat and tosses her hair like in one of those shampoo commercials.

Both Nick and Hikaru should see similar scenes, even if at completely opposite ends of the ship. A karaoke bar here, a small casino there, the penny arcade. Hikaru passes an older couple just finishing up a septuagenarian* make-out session, and Nick passes some kids chasing each other with squirt guns.
*septuagenarians are people over the age of 70

The dinner menu offered Matt by overly cheerful table server displays a variety of sushi and sashimi, steak and lobster dishes (one even with both), and the standard overpriced yet tasty hamburger. The table server can be heard off in the distance with his supervisor, discussing another colleague's "Pieces of Flair" (Yes, I did just go there.)

After the more caring girls have forgotten Andy's blunder and gone off with their own conversation, one raven-haired beauty is still obviously looking at him, if out of the corner of her eye. The other guys on the court wait to see if him and Kris will leave. "You guys leavin' then?" one asks.

After the previews finish, the titles reveal that Zander is about to watch "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". It seems like it will be...entertaining.

Meanwhile, Bill is busy stocking the freezer for the restaurant. Boxes of lobster, crab, shrimp and other frozen goods stacked 10 crates high sometimes, making Bill stop every now and then to rest his back. He hears some of the dance performers in the other room grabbing a quick snack before they prep for their show. Bill shakes his head and goes back to his manual labor.

Kris sees the raven-haired girl standing there, "Oh, hello there...I'm Kris....this guy, " He points to Andy, "just forgot to tie his shoes before we started to play....anyway, I'm going to take a shower before dinner. Maybe I will see you at dinner?"

"Karaoke? No, I can't sing. Casino? I'm not old enough. Make-out?.... Wait.... UGH!" Hikaru shakes the mental image of him kissing an old woman out of his head. Interesting, but disgusting none the less. "I guess the penny arcade's my best bet."

He strolls into the penny arcade and looks over the various game machines scattered about the floor. There isn't one he's particularly looking for, though he does prefer fighting and shooter style games above the rest. Perhaps he could find someone to play with as well?

"Bah, who'd be down here playing games at this time?"

"Hmm..."

Not really sure if he will like it or not, he sits back to watch it anyway.

Mike held the note in his hands. Sure it wasn't the most fool-proof of forgeries...but he was on an international cruise opposed to the simple American post. He smiled as he remembered the phone call that only happened an hour ago where his parents complained at him for not telling him when the boat was leaving. They had gone to a show and he had the time of departure written on his hand, his parents had asked him and he made sure to tell them the boat left an hour after it was supposed to leave. As they yelled at him he simply reiterated he had told them the correct time. After a while they simply believed him, cut their losses, and made the flight back home.

The note he held in his hand was a back-up for his first plan. He figured it wouldn't be too hard to get a drink here, but if they gave him any guff he had this note which stated permission from his parents (with their 'bonafide' signature) that he could become intoxicated. Silly and he knew that it was wrong...but maybe it'd fly.

Mike had looked at every situation and scenario: asking for a drink, not getting one, and begging; asking, claiming he had permission, and not getting one; jumping over the bar and decking the bartender to get the drink...etc...as much as he hated lying (except when it got him away from family that is *wink*), he really wanted to see if he could get a drink...and he really wanted to try it too. This was the only way he figured he could get it. Lying: Last resort to get what I want; he repeated in his head. A standard of sorts.

It took him a little while to figure out where the bar was but he found it after a bit of searching. Strolling up to the bar he sat on one of the stools as if he had done this sixty times before, "I'll have a vadka on the rocks please." he looked over to the bartender. He had grown out his facial hair a bit in hopes that it would further the lie.
It's not about how much dough you make -- it's about how delicious a pizza you eat at the end.

Andy taps Kris on the chest with his hand as if to hold him back. He's smiling again. "Hey. I saw her first. I'll see you at dinner, man." He pats his buddy on the shoulder.

Without another word, he slowly walks toward the raven-haired beauty, showing off his better-than-average muscles and trying to hide the developing bruise on his cheek with his hair.
