Ages ago, Arlis was a beautiful and amazing world, filled with all kinds of wonders. Stories tell of the incredible powers the ancients had, powers like unto those of the Gods. They could create anything from thin air, command the very elements themselves, and even travel great distances in the blink of an eye. The lesser races of elves, dwarfs, humans, halflings, and others lived beneath them much like rats, largely unnoticed except when they interfered with the ancients, or were used by the ancients for their own desires. Some say the ancients created the lesser races themselves, while others say the Gods did.
No one is sure exactly what happened to change this, some say that the Gods grew jealous and cursed the world, or that the ancients lost control of their powers. Regardless of what happened, the result cannot be argued. A strange mist filled the air, and those that breathed were either killed, or changed. Countless lives were lost as the mist spread, and it seemed all life would be destroyed.
The last of the ancients though, the Glorious Lorin, created a way for life to survive. He created devices, called pure crystals, that would keep the mist at bay, protecting small villages of the lesser races, and smaller crystals that would allow for travel in the mists. The Glorious Lorin then vanished, many say going on a quest to try and rid the world of the mist.
Not long after the Glorious Lorin vanished the people of the world learned of another danger to their lives. Those creatures who had not died in the mist had been twisted by it, becoming terrible creatures who only cared to hunt and eat. They could not survive for long outside the mist though, protecting those small villages that remained. These monsters made travel between villages extremely dangerous, and some of the smaller ones were soon cut off, unable to provide protection for their travelers, or having lost all their pure crystals to attacks.
Time wore on, and life continued the best it could. Most villages now only know of one or two neighboring villages that can be reached by travel for trade. Life has its dangers, but most are happy with the simple, contained lives they lead.
Loriae: A mid sized town, Loriae's chief focus is in providing trade to smaller villages nearby. As such it is not only a hub for merchants and merchandise, but information as well.
Moridin's Forge(North of Loriae): One of the largest and widest known places in Arlis, it is also one of the few places where various metals are mined. Copper, silver, gold, iron, and even the occasional mithril deposit are taken from the mines the dig deep beneath the town, safe from both the mists and the monsters that normally plague all other mines. Moridin's Forge is the hub of human lands, not only because of the trade, but also because to the east are the elves, and up the mountains to the north are the dwarfs.
Deep Water(West of Moridin's Forge): Though not nearly as large as Moridin's Forge Deep water has two things that makes it almost as popular as Moridin's Forge. First is the fact that Deep Water is the only fishing village in the known area, allowing for harvests of food and other items from the sea. Second is the Mermaid's Market, a special section of the docks where Merpeople come from the safety of the water to trade items from the deep.
Ok, with those bits of information out of the way here's a little run down of the RP idea here. Arlis is a (currently) low magic medieval fantasy world, where the only magic known to humans are the pure crystals and other artifacts of the Ancients. Everyone will start out as a human in one of the three villages described above. You do not all need to start in the same village, but I'd recommend it if you want to journey together. Being a loner is allowed, but be aware you will be spending a lot of time interacting with various NPCs and the like.
The general story idea will revolve around the discovery of what happened to the Ancients, what caused the mists, or something else if you desire. Just talk to me and we'll see what we can work out. Of course there will be plenty of hijinks and strange transformations on the way. If ya have any questions just go ahead and ask, and if interested please fill out the following character profile.
