A New Dawn, Metaphorically

(MoS, it's a continuation. From THAT conversation.)

Setting: Afternoon, 5:30-ish. The sun is just under the horizon, and its rays don't seem to blind those who look near it. The location is in Cyrea, the Floating City; specifically, right next to the rails which border the edges of the city.

Alume walks to the railing and looks towards the horizon. He puts his hands on the sturdy railing and sighs.

"Well, shard... how do you like this world?"

MoS sighs and looks off in the distance as well. "It's... Unique. I haven't been to a plane like this before. Or, if I have, I've forgotten it." 'Shard' looks at Alume, his grey eyes flickering with.. Color? "Anyway, how soon do I get to kill?"

Alume closes his eyes for a few seconds and smiles. "Probably soon. Alexander's been searching for what you wanted, although I'm decently sure he doesn't know you are here. Which is good, since I'm not really sure how he would react."

The teenager sighs, and continues, saying "The treaty's almost over. In three days, there'll be a battle, no doubt. They've never been the type to wait for us to attack. So, either way, you'll get your fun quite soon."

"Only three days?" Shard smiled breathed out. "He'll find out I'm here soon enough Alume, but if I'm on his side, I'm sure he can't complain too much."

The teenager chuckles. "Well, technically, he's not on any side. Similar to his friend, he just helps us from time to time. All Cybersphere is after is a way to end the war, preferrably with a just side winning. He does, however, help us, which is good."

Alume then turns around and faces the shard. "He wants to stop the war, as well as anyone who would cause extreme injury to this world. He's an idealist, but quite planted in real thoughts and beliefs. It's a contradiction, I know, but... that's how he works."

He continues. "However, you may have a point. If he thinks you're just on this side, he might not worry too much."

"However... He knows that I can't just be here to help, and will pursue that point endlessly." Shard sits down, continuing to stare off into the distance. "What do the gods have to do with the start of the war anyway?"

"From what I know, the war started because of a real issue: A dispute over certain territories. However, after that was settled, the gods apparently incited a coup in Sarian territory, manipulating a handful of Cyrean fighters to attack the mining camps in the name of Cirellen. After that, a similar attack was made on us. However, the Sky Knights, a completely Sarian group, attacked on their free will after that. From there, diplomacy began to disintegrate, and the war we know now began." Alume recited this series of events matter-of-factly, as if it were common knowledge.

MoS nodded, soaking all the knowledge up. "So, the gods basically started the war.... That's very interesting to know. Now, why would they do something like that? I thought they were on your side to begin with?"

Alume looks down and begins laughing privately. However, the laughter quickly becomes quite loud, and, after a few seconds, it dies down. "Dear me, you ARE a riot."

He takes a moment to breathe deeply, and, afterwards, continues, saying "Of course they're not on our side. They are on no side, officially. However, off the records, they work behind both sides of the war. All of them have varying degrees of preference of either side."

"And as to their reason for beginning a war that would end up with the death of countless people? No idea. When you get your hands on one of them, ask, will you? If I can, I'll do so as well."

"I'll keep that in mind.... Is that all we have for now? You've answered all of my questions..." His eyes HAD narrowed when Alume laughed, but quickly shifted back to normal when he stopped.

"Yeah, that's all the extra information I know at the moment." Alume just continued to watch the sunset.

"Since we're done... Where will I be staying for the duration of this little trip?"

Alume pondered for a few moments. "Well, you could stay with me, but I'd rather not. I can probably get you a temporary room, since there have been a few people that have left as of late, and I'm quite sure that the next batch of recruits doesn't come for a while. Wait right here, okay?" The youth jogged off into the inner areas of Cyrea, specifically, the Recruitment and House Assignment Center, in hopes of obtaining a room for his friend.

MoS laughed and stared off into the distance. "What an interesting plane... And what interesting war-mongers dwell in it." He gave a small laugh, and looked over his shoulder, at where Alume had disappeared to. "One can hope everyone is as interesting as my 'friend' is."

A few minutes later, Alume returned, still running. He stopped a meter away, but skidded up to a few feet away from the shard. Panting, the youth said "Just as I thought. I've got you a room. Number 67." He produces a key with the room number on a tag attached to it from his pocket. "It's in the northeast corridor of the place, kay?"

After a couple of deep breaths, Alume stands upright and asks MoS "Anything else?"
