Potion Shop

Postby Alchemist » Mon May 02, 2011 10:52 am

In an empty lot between a couple of larger buildings, a new shop appears. It's unclear whether the shop literally appeared, or was built while nobody was paying attention, but the point is it's there now. The shop has a wooden sign hanging above the door that says "Potions For Sale". The interior is a bit bigger than it seems it should be based on the outside, and has shelves upon shelves all full of flasks which are in turn full of liquids of all sorts of various colors. Most of the potions are individually labeled; there is a small section in the back right with a sign hanging over it which says "Nontransformative", and a shelf in the back left says "MAN Potions Clearance". A man in a brown, feature-obscuring cloak mans the counter in the back-center of the shop. At the moment he's sitting behind the counter, leaning forward on the counter face down, and may well be mistaken for asleep.

*Enters into the shop.* Ah, I was going to open an apothecary to the general public but I think this person's idea will go over better as they are already mixed up. *Looks for anything boosting magic or enhancing combat performance.*

There seem to be quite a few potions (not in the non-transformative section) which are marked as "witch" or "mage" or "kung fu fighter" or "swordmaster"...and so on. The non-transformative section has some simple "mana/chi replenish", "magic boost", and some strength or speed or agility boosting things.

"Hmmm...Potions," said Don as he looked around after entering the shop. He picked one up from the MAN Potions Clearance shelf and looked at it. "Can't have too many of a potion."

The man behind the counter seems to snap awake when Don pulls a potion from the shelf, and immediately looks over in his direction. "I'd better warn you about those," he says, "they're on clearance because they're slightly defective. They're cheap, but you use them at your own risk. I can tell you more about 'em if you like."

Gustav approaches the shop.

"Hey, cool! A potion shop! I haven't seen one of these since I left Goug! It reminds me of my brief career as a chemist!"

"Defected as in how?" asked Don as he looked at the bottle to see if he can see anything though it.

The bottles are all made of clear glass; Don can easily see a thick blue liquid inside the one he's holding, which would obviously be the potion inside. The cloaked clerk answers, "Well, I thought this place might have a market for masculinity potion, so I went and tried to make up a huge batch of it. But through no fault of my own, the batch got tampered with while it was simmering overnight, and I didn't find out there was something wrong till the first person to buy one came back demanding a refund. Far as I can tell, most of those are temporary with time periods lasting anywhere from a month to a few minutes, and while some, wearing off, will just return you to whatever form you were in before, others tend to push too far in the opposite direction. Some of the other transformative potions I've got around here actually do produce male forms and were not tampered with, but I don't really remember which ones are which because I didn't think gender would be important information when I was labeling them."

He greets the other two customers by way of waving hello, but doesn't seem to bother talking.

*Looks over the job/class potions.* Actually I already have been all of these and can easily switch to them. Might consider the speed boosting ones though. Hey clerk, these the usual 30 seconds or so in length or are they permanent boosts? Also, got anything that will tweak our external appearance? Say something that would give us a tail or simply change only our hair color?

(this sounds like it has potential to be very useful for me. Heh heh.)

Albedo walks into the building, looking among the assembled. He's seen many of them before, so he is going to assume the place is safe. He then looks about the different potions, noting the odd names.

He looks over toward where Raleigh is and replies. "I think most of the boost potions last about five minutes...it's possible for there to be a permanent boost in there somewhere if the batch magic got concentrated in one spot, but I couldn't tell you which ones. They stack too, most of my potions aren't safe to use at the same time but those are. I don't think I put any small cosmetic potions out on the shelves, save the display for the flashier stuff, but I'm sure I got something like that in my counter of holding..." he reaches below him, into a compartment on his side of the counter, and pulls out a few potions, setting them on top of said counter. They are labeled "blue hair", "extra arm", "fox tail," and "forehead eye". On these he comments, "Just some samples; sure I can find something specific if you ask for it, though."

In addition to essentially class-based potions, Albedo might notice some potions named after animals both real and fictional, including unicorns, dragons, and even one or two pokemon-named potions placed in random places.

Albedo takes a few pokemon ones, also hanging around the fictional races section to examine those closer.

*Raises an eyebrow at the concept of fictional creatures.* You know those things exist right? I mean you have more or less one of them in the shop right now. I think I like the eye one. Got anything for perhaps scaled skin or lengthened claws/nails?

Aside from the two labeled areas mentioned in the first post, there don't really seem to be any organized sections at all...but the *ahem* mystical races Albedo can find include things like elves, demons, angels, kitsune, and so on as well as the dragons and unicorns and whatnot mentioned before. Some of the class potions do actually have races included in their descriptions as well, things like "elvish ranger".

Gustav browses the many potions keeping his eyes peeled for those granting special abilities, or at least those that can heal a Blue Mage after an awkward attempt to learn Goblin Punch.
