Just ahead, in a large plaze, Raleigh's team will find members of the Chibiwanbanshu stockpiling crates by the town fountain. Up ahead, the temple looms overhead...

Bones, now on solid earth, goes forth in search of a good vantage point in order to survey the landscape.

"Squeak squeak..."

At Drakecorp, the nanobot hive begins breaking down the metal- but seems to take an inordinately longer period of time, compared to usual. The material is incredibly tough, and given the general lack of imperfections in the cast of the metal in the pieces that Raleigh collected, analysis shows that the forging process took place at an atomic scale. At the same time, however, there is an unmistakable metaphysical aspect to the metal, as wails of sorrow emit from the metal as it's slowly picked apart. This continues on the entire time it's taken apart. Once the process is complete, the metal seems to resemble carbon steel- but there's an aspect of dark matter which seems to be affecting the properties. It's like every piece of the metal is a black box, in and off itself, as some manner of supernatural techniques went into the forging of the black metal. Given the information from the meeting so far, it's likely 'Soulsteel.'

On the opposite side of the world, Corvus and his brothers continue to engage the black plague in their pitched battle. Through the combined efforts of stupid, fake war and death manage to strip the assault mech of it's shielding, which of course leaves it more vulnerable to the sustained attacks from others. Eventually, this mech falls too, and in good time, as Corvus marches forward, full of wrath and wreathed in terror. The soldiers seem to hesitate as he continues to march forth, unconcerned with their efforts- but those able to wield magicks begin hurling cold blue fire, and void like lightning at him. The swarming mass of the plague continues to press in, regardless, as those outside Corvus' radius of terror seem all too eager to rip and tear.

Miles from the CTC camp, Raleigh's manifestation with the ghost and zombie notices the ghost immediately begins wailing as it's form darkens. The zombie, meanwhile, groans dumbly while whatever flesh it has left seems to mineralize into obsidian, and it's eye sockets gain a baleful red glow- he can already since his control over them is gone- threads of magic are pouring into both, from somewhere distant. But before he can trace them to a fixed location (further east, is the general direction), the link cuts, and the undead pair give a shriek and launch at Raleigh ferociously.

On solid earth now, Bones gets a good look at the wasteland that is the dark continent from the CTC's camp. The air here is noticeably cooler than what the season would indicate for this part of the world, but it doesn't seem particularly putrid or difficult to breath. And it's not eating him alive, which is always a good sign. Regardless, the absence of any life outside the camp is disturbing, and the bare bones, and dead trees here and there mean that at one point, this place was brimming with life. And yet, for all of it to perish and be in this state... Leaves a lot to think about, though Doc is probably getting most of the info as to how it's happened now. Still, there seems to be some ruins in the distance, which could be a great chance to get a better picture as to what happened.

ELSEWHERE...

The operations room continues in a flurry of activity, the shadow resting upon the command throne watches with pale blue eyes, before a flashing indicator goes off on the far Eastern map of the dark continent.

"Well?"

A monotone replies from a nearby analyst.

"Division Seven has engaged Corvus, Shadow, and Shade with their respective forces. The majority of their forces seem to be in retreat, though they did knock out our primary assault walkers stationed in that area. Corvus however is accelerating his collection of energy, possibly for a final attack." A pause. "Should be dispatch Division Twelve to finish them off?"

The shadow rests a hand on a panel, scrolling through data before laughing with a low cackle.

"No, see what the brothers do for now. Fall back and monitor their movements, they may reveal where the Sword has hidden herself."

"Affirmative."

The shadow resumes his cackle, as troop indicators readjust themselves with real time movements. In the CTC camp, a new indicator in green flashes, but brings forth no alarms or other warnings. A distance away on the map, an orange symbol seems to be pasted where the Steel Talons' ship crashed into a volcano, with warning indicators flashing around it for the lava flow and seismic disruptions. Several red indicators, labeled 'Nine', 'Twelve', and 'Eight' are slowly approaching the crash site. Another indicator, also seems to be floating northeast of the CTC camp, but is dimmed, as though it were inactive. So the operations of the dark ones are carried out with precision and ruthlessness.

"Our lord will pleased with what the net has caught."

"Squeak squeak..."

**At the CTC Base Meeting***
Well first I have to ask is there a designation we can address you by? Saying 'hey you' every time might get confusing. Secondly, I have heard someone mentioning there might be survivors still here on the continent, have you met any?

***At the test site with the ghost and zombie****
Raleigh2: Well crap. I was hoping that spirits would have remained unaffected. So much for revealing one of my other weapons. *He reaches up and latches onto the ghost before opening his mouth and sucking it in. Seems he is just going to eat it. While doing this he dances around the zombie's attacks.* At least I didn't bring one of the vampires.

***Chibi Market***
*Elenore leads Mower over to the Chibiwanbanshu first to check in with them.* Elenore: Excuse me, are any of you Stone Beak?

***DrakeCorp Facilities****
Scarlet: Confirmed as soulsteel metals. At least its not something entirely unknown to us. *Telepathically to Raleigh.* Loading out Plague and Venom as your weapons of choice on this battlefield will likely be unwise. We suggest you use wind and earth manipulating weapons instead. Indirect attacks and restrictions would be best.

Raleigh(Telepathically): Alright. Send Gleipnir here through the gate as well. It couldn't hurt to simply restrain rather than kill the enemies troops. I'm going to prepare mind destruction/consuming spells for the inevitable conflict. After all, brain dead isn't physically dead so the miasma probably won't reanimate them.

*Rommel reaches into one of the interior pockets to pull out a small computer-looking device. After placing it on the ground, he toggles a few buttons on its side and activates a 3-D display. The display shows the generalized emblem of the Steel Talons before the words 'Recon Field Report' appear the diamond-shaped exterior.*

"What I'm about to show all of you is summation of all knowledge available to me at this time. First, their bread-and-butter soldiers."

*The Emblem fades away, only to be a replaced by a blacked-out biohazard symbol and hellish-looking suit of infantry powered armor. Rommel frowns briefly at the symbol before continuing his briefing.*

"In case, any of you had wondered, the symbol used for Nokel's basic soldiers is known to cause insanity, physical degradation, and other possible side effects if viewed in any manner. Fortunately, Command devised a symbol to represent Nokel's Black Plague soldiers that lacks such side effects.

Anyway, This is a Black Plague soldier. They are known for being highly-effective and devastating even in small numbers against numerically superior forces. As you can see, their armor and gear is entirely black and comparable to and, in some cases, better than Steel Talon equivalents. Unfortunately, their numbers are considerably large and capable of over-running anything they cannot wipe out in the first barrage."

*The biohazard symbol shifts to a completely white Grim Reaper-esque scythe and a white-cloaked figure with only armored boots and gauntlets visible outside of its folds while two glowing red dots mark helmet optics beneath the cowl of the cloak.*

"This is Nokel's elite: The White Reapers. They perform any task Nokel requires and have practically never failed him. In almost every criteria used for evaluating capabilities of soldiers, they exceed even the members of the battalion to which I belong. What we know of them is very little, and only obtained by chance when a unit of them were deployed to wreck havoc in the Quarantine Zone. While they succeeded, Colonel Rommel was able to slay two of their number when he was on an early morning jog."

*The cloaked menace and the scythe are then replaced of a series of artist concept-images detailing a variety of ground and air vehicles.*

"As for their armored and air support, we know very little at the moment. These images were drawn up from a patchy Reconnaissance report recently which was cut short when the comm operator giving the report was eradicated by the machines she was reporting to TacCom like the rest of her squad. What we DO know is that they are exceeding lethal, which is most likely a trademark of Nokel's forces and himself."

*The sketches are then replaced in turn by an image of a massive quadrupedal war machines.*

"While we don't know what this machine is, we believe that it some sort of command or assault machine. We also know is capable of vaporizing infantry or any other ground force in short order. Against them, our best bet is small groups or even individuals working in concert to divide its defenses, bring down the shields generated from its knee joints, and then destroy the machine itself."

*Rommel reaches down to turn off the device an place it back within the jacket pocket.*

"Many Steel Talons died gathering what scant information we have on Nokel. Any questions on the portion about that monster's forces? When we're done with questions, I'll proceed on to the tactics section.
Bore: Ah, comrade Yozis! I have been meaning to have bear wrestling match with you! Let me show you what your rear end looks like! *turns them into a demon-pretzel*

Is it known if the walker's shields extend through the ground beneath them or can one come up under the shield? Also, is their power armor made up of this soul steel too or some other metal? I ask since it sounds like your troops have encountered them more often than I think any of the rest of us.

Major Durant considers the offer. "Do you have any information regarding the early stages of this invasion?" she asks. "Or, alternatively, do you have any information regarding the area we're currently in? There appear to be a set of ruins nearby we are organizing an expedition to investigate."

Funny Hat + Funny Accent wrote:"As for their armored and air support, we know very little at the moment. The major listens intently to Rommel's presentation, considering the information provided. "We do have somewhat more information regarding the design of Nokel's mechanized forces," she says, after Rommel pauses for questions. "We obtained early drone footage of a battle between a significant contingent of his armored forces against the entity known as Helel. Their aircraft we also engaged briefly during the landing here."

Her own holographic display shifts to provide images of a variety of mechanized war machines, apparently taken in highly chaotic combat situations. "To summarize, the opposition primarily relies on the deployment of a variety of 'walker'-based vehicles, which vary from bipedal 'skirmisher' units approximately 10 to 15 meters tall, to quadrupedal tank-like variants focusing on a turreted main gun. Finally, there are massive quad-legged platforms apparently used as some kind of siege units, with defensive force fields of some kind, and a primary weapon capable of immense destructive power."

"As for their aircraft, they seem to be capable of matching, if not exceeding, the performance of our own high-performance designs with cybernetically-enhanced pilots. They have been noted to use some kind of gravimetric warhead in some of their missiles, as well as directed-energy weapons."

(( Since I'm bored... ))

Meanwhile....

The CTC Naval Task Force finally recovers what they can of the wreckage of the attack submarines. Lacking proper scientific facilities, the samples are secured as best they can within suppressive fields, and then loaded onto a high-speed aircraft, which heads back to one of the more remote CTC facilities on the Muffinville continent.

Realizing that the expedition could use additional scientific (and perhaps military support), a small naval force departs from one of the CTC's naval bases along the eastern coast of the Muffinville continent, heading at top speed to join up with the Task Force already stationed off of the shores of the other continent.

"As is my nature on a mandate such as this, I have little contact with such dissident groups. The less knowledge of my presence there is the longer my mandate can last. That being said, to obtain as much information as I could I did naturally seek out those who have stood the test of time. Survivors come in two categories, on this forsaken piece of earth. Those that have hidden themselves, through luck and skill. You will not find them and even if you do, you will not bring them from whence they stay. Fear and persistence will outweigh anything you can offer them."

*She pulls her hands from the sleeves of the cloak to splay them out in front of her body.*

"The other set, they are everywhere and they are no where. They have survived as well by being lucky or skilled, because of this, they have moved on, assimilated and been assimilated. That they are survivors of this prickling of my thumbs only will firm their resolve to not have to survive it again. They push it aside and forget about it, becoming as quickly as they can the new groups and labels they have found or have been found by. In essence, what this means is that you will not find any survivors."

*Tilts her head up to look at the ceiling*

"As for this location you have chosen and the locations you want to choose. Where we stand now is merely the brink. From here on forth you will find yourselves swept down a black river, filled with the icy touch of death, His miasma. As it is with any bout of swimming, you get in thinking you will eventually get used to the cold. This will not happen. Spending any extended time in these waters will result in death. The deeper and farther you go, the more you will have stripped from you, until all you are is laid to bare, until you are no more. Your protections count only for time. Time is the one aspect you will all strive for in this dark place. The closer you get to the center, the less time you will have."

*Claps her hands together, looking back at the Major*

"The ruins are far more prosaic than my little warning. They are whats left of a human city, long ago subsumed by the invasion from the sea, from whence He came. It was the first to fall."

"And if you must call me by a name, then perhaps Tsae will suffice"

You make it sound so hopeless and an inevitable loss for our side, Tsae. Excellent, that means I'm right where I should be. *He leans back in his chair and tries hard to fight off the grin of amusement that keeps trying to make itself known on his face. Mentally he files away the comparison to Leviathan that he caught in Tsae's speech.*

One of the Chibiwanbanshu, an elderly Chibi sporting a long tobacco pipe, waves at the two.

"That would be I. Are you the team that has been sent by the master? We've stockpiled as much as we could afford from the market. However, we seem to have trouble convincing the local temple in relinquishing their stash. Honestly! In the old day the Chibiwanbanshu commanded respect from the priesthood. Nowadays they treat us like we're some joke. Bah!"

"Heh!" says Bones, advancing towards the ruins. Remembering the miasma encountered earlier, he quickly dons a Chibiwanbanshu issued gas mask before heading over. A small squad of Chibi ninja accompany him on his reconnaissance mission.

"Gas masks on, gentlemen" says Bones taking the lead. "We don't want to breath in too much of the foul air here."

((Ah, perhaps I was reading too much into it. A beast from the sea that brings destruction and is a living hellmouth. Seems Nokel is having something of a similar effect so Raleigh was just perceiving a similarity that might not have been intended. I have a bad habit of overanalyzing symbolism.))

Oh ho, I like you Tsae for you speak truly with that last comment. Always was one of those 'lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for' types myself so I love it when the odds are long and I'm almost assured to die horribly screaming in unending agony. It makes winning all the more fun.

Ah, I have a question I will address to everyone here, is it known if the enemy's power armor has an internal air supply/air filter or are they just the human sized tank equipment they sometimes are?
