I remember reading about this one before, and being horribly disgusted.
For those who don't know, quick summary:
A black girl was found raped and beaten near Duke University. The prosecutor (who is now disbarred), rather than waiting for some REAL evidence to turn up, decided to go on the warpath against the first three men the witness fingered... because he figured that being main prosecutor in a high-profile rape case would sure increase his chances of being elected in the county. As a result, he performed borderline unethical violations in court procedure and spoke out to the media about how utterly confident he was that the boys he'd fingered were guilty. He basically ruined the reputations of the three students involved by flashing their names and pictures all over TV in that area, calling them rapists and supremacists. Ultimately, they were found innocent (despite attempts at hiding evidence and other sneaky illegal tricks by the prosecutor), but they have yet to be vindicated on TV...
Quite frankly, he deserved to be disbarred. He ruined the reputations of three innocent students AND the chance for a rape victim to get true justice simply to further his own political goals. Disgusting.
