A little help here?

Postby Gee-chan » Thu Jan 24, 2008 8:50 am

Hey people.

I was wondering if I could ask you all something. I have been set a magazine as a media project, the subject of which was free choice. My decision was to make it on the anime/manga genre and the culture surrounding it. The culture part I can do but I must also ask the views of other people about what they would want in the magazine as secondary research. A questionnaire must be made later but for now I just need ideas that I can give as evidence. So what would you like to see? Any perticular genres and titles that you would like covered?

Thanks guys

Generas, hmm.. my favorites are fantasy, romance and sci fi =)

I'd rather not be the one to suggest particular titles though =p

What I would really love to see, is a listing and defining of all the different Genres. It sounds basic, but, people don't come out fo the womb knowing this sort of thing and a easy to read and understand guide map to a new hobby or interest has incalculable value.

Hey Rowan, thanks for that. I hadn't even considered that. I had assumed that people would know what genres there were so I didn't think of it.

Remember that anime has some quirky genres, though; things like mecha and magical girl and whatever, that outsiders might not necessarily be aware of, or at least aware of just what defines said genre.

Nice point there Guen-chan! ^_^ Anime does have some very odd genres that most people wouldn't even think to consider genres in of themselves.

These are all valid points that I hadn't really thought of. I was more going to go with the general action, adventure, sci-fi, etc, etc.

Not a bad idea, particularly if you compare and contrast the expectations of audiences between Western Genres and Anima/Manga Genres. What is the same and different between, say, Action, Romance, etc. between the two cultures.

Does anyone know where I would be able to compile an online questionnaire? I'm gonna need somewhere to do that.

Thanks for your input guys. Because of it I have been able to make several improvments to my questionnaire document.

Try here. I haven't actually used it though, so I can't promise anything.
