MY GOD.

I am TIRED. I just spent several hours with rowdy children who wouldn't behave if you threw them in a FURNACE. Especially one kid who has NO respect for ANYONE bigger than him, and that's gonna get him killed one day.

I just hope I'm there to see it.

What has me pissed off? This.

What different times we live in. I remember my parents photographing nearly all of our outdoor activities and putting the pictures in scrapbooks. It's one thing if some random stranger is photographing kids in the park, but all one needed to do is ask the kids, "Do you know this man?" "He's our dad." Problem solved, right? I swear. I'm all for protecting kids, but has it gotten to the point where a parent has to keep them in the house 24/7?

Oi vey! Yet another stupid hurricane coming to the Gulf Coast! Looks like yet another weekend wasted at the college refugee camp in Sam Houston fighting the foreign students over power outlets and spending the entire night starring up at the blazing gym lights! Huzzah! Ike's only going to sideswipe us as a Tropical Storm. Perhaps just a Tropical Depression... -_-

Okay, I'm on the bus after school, waiting for it to leave, when some punk on the bus next to mine starts pointing at me and laughing. I respond with a rude hand gesture, but he just keeps laughing. Eventually, some kids come and sit next to him. They start laughing to. I open the window and ask why they're laughing at me? Their response? Throw pencils at me. The bus driver finally notices after they get one through my window and radios their driver. They stop throwing things, but I can tell they're still laughing.

I bloody hate canvassing! I recently took a job with an organization trying to get voters registered (I've been out of work for reasons I don't want to get into, and this is the only job I've been able to get for ages). It's a big service and all, but I can't stand the process! We have to spend hours every day roaming streets- preferably at high speed- and pouncing on everyone we see and ask if they're registered. It's repetitive, and gets bloody boring, not to mention very trying too. First off, the non-stop walking is hard physically; I hurt from the waist down and have a big welt on the inside of one leg, where my pants rubbed. I have to waddle around my apartment when I move to keep it from rubbing more and hurting terribly. Not to mention that I'm naturally quite introverted, in real life. So running up to strangers and begging them to register (or even just vote) is very difficult for me, mentally and emotionally. After a couple hours I just want to crawl in a hole and hide. This is my second day, and both days I got home from work and ended up crying. I swear I'd leave this behind if I didn't need the money at this point. That's the only thing helping me carry on. I know it's for the public good, yes. And they're all so excited, so eager.... I feel bad that I dislike it so much. But... I simply hate to canvass! That's all there is to it. Why, why, can't I find a real job?! I feel like I'm going to collapse!

Well, what do you consider to be good, real jobs? And what kind of jobs (and salary) are you willing to settle for? I know a few people who have to settle for less than what they need, so I can sympathize, to an extent. Perhaps someone here could suggest something to look for that you haven't considered yet, that you might like.

Well, my ideal is any sort of professional position where I can use my skill set of editing, typing, etc. And I really want to make at least nine an hour. Preferably more; one of the key reasons I started hunting in the first place was that that salary was getting hard to live on in this current economy, but I knew I'd never get a raise where I was before. But right now I'm even looking into stores and things, just to get some income. I'm pure and simply sick of living like a spartan, of having to ponder every penny before spending it. And it's hard to settle for less when I need the money to survive. I live alone, so there's no other support net for me. No roommate or whatever to lend a hand with the bills (and no place to put a roommate, as I live in an efficiency). So I really do need that level of income, just to survive. Part of my problem is lack of a vehicle. If I had a car, I could have had a job ages ago. The only places hiring seem to be in outlying areas I can't get to by bus. It's so maddening. and I'm not moving out the boondocks. If for no other reason that if I broke my lease now, I wouldn't get my deposit money back, and that's five hundred bucks out the window.

Well, after dwelling on it for a bit, and not really knowing the kind of salaries they offer, I settled on a job I thought worth mentioning. What about at a publishing company of some sort? You know, checking grammar and spelling (and other such things) of literary works before they're released? For something like that, you could probably work at home... Well, if you had a computer, anyway. I dunno. Something like that.

I've applied for positions like that. It hasn't gone anywhere thus far, sadly. Oh, and the canvassing just got yanked out from under me yesterday- no more funding for it. So yeah, even that fell through. I may have hated it, but it was a job. I can't win, it seems....

Oh, what a world we live in.

*Scratches head*

The only other thing I can think of is writing a novel and hope it gets published. That's what I'm hoping for myself, if I can ever get around to it... <_<;

I'd love to do that, but I can't do so in enough time to fix my money crunch. And this has all been so frustrating and depressing that it's all but killed my creativity....
