Hm. Not sure if I'd agree there completely, depending what you mean--the main site hasn't been updated in quite some time, so it's true there, and the modding team is mostly gone, but I think the forums aren't nearly 'comatose'--I just went and checked the posts since my last login, (three hours ago), and there's some 22 topics that have been moving, which doesn't seem all that bad to me. Of that, seventeen were Muffin Room/Games/FFRP/Universe topics, but still, for three hours, that doesn't seem terrible. It's not Gaia-level activity or anything, but...eh.
Perhaps I've misunderstood you--or perhaps I'm just a bad judge.

As far as MSF becoming 'inactive', I would have to say that the forums (at least in the Roleplay and Muffinville boards) are far from it. The key is that there seems to be little growth as a whole. Mainly the same three or four people instigate something which stimulates activity within those forums, and the influx of new members who consistently post is rather poor. We're not dead yet, but I hate to think of what will happen to this forum when inevitably most of the people who keep things alive are no longer around. O_O

That being said, I'm rather inactive myself. At least in comparison with what I could do over the summer. XP

Well that is part of it too right now Mendo. Everyone just started school again. Which brings posts down and such.

Another thing in the past it was up to the mods to bring activity a bit. It was part of modding the forums to bring some of their own activity and hope it spreads. Well it worked till most of them got pulled away from MSF to other things. Of course that's good for them. But Yeah it seems MSF coasts by now.

Also for the main site. The last update destroyed it. With the lack of artist even posting on MSF forums now and the time it would take for them to post their stuff here it killed it. And the lost of captions there just tore it down even more I believe it lost all the old stories too but don't remember. The update before it also felt more natural for MSF even with some of the problems it had.

And then there's the fact that ownership went from one person who didn't have time to another who also didn't have time. And they came up with a new site that was incomplete, and for a while didn't even work. A Google search doesn't even bring it up, so that doesn't help, either, even if it were any good. Although it still brings up the old, archived site, which, naturally, isn't updated anymore. ;/

If you want to draw some lurkers into the light, you need something to draw them in. I was a lurker of the site back in the day, and I was too nervous to even check out the forums. But that changed when I decided to make a caption out of one of the images on the site, which were there for that purpose. A site can draw a lot of people in where a forum cannot, in many different ways. I wish we were still utilizing the site in that way.

Another thing in the past it was up to the mods to bring activity a bit. It was part of modding the forums to bring some of their own activity and hope it spreads. Well it worked till most of them got pulled away from MSF to other things.

Well, these days, nothing much was spreading when I was active. I guess my topics were (and still are) boring. ;/ I'd roleplay but I always end up being treated inconsiderately, so that's out. And I don't fit in Muffin anymore, and am practically ignored to a certain degree. MSF has forsaken me! :O

I still, check the boards with some regularity, but I will be the first to admit that I just haven't found much that has prompted me to post of late.

The majority of people that I used to spend time with around here have since moved on. Not too surprising since many were in high school or early college and now, some years on, are in some cases finished with college. I still keep in touch with some people from the old crowd. Some more than others.

I am still grateful for what MSF gave me. I just feel somewhat out of date so to speak.

I've noticed that a bunch of members that joined before I did, seem to post less and less with each passing month. Also the last time I tried to get into the main site, it said that it couldn't be displayed or some Mumbo Jumbo like that. Because of that I changed the URL for the MSF Link on my site. I think I need to edit my Code and have it say MSF Message Board instead of just MSF. What do all of you think?

Personally, I kinda wish the site would come back to life. I've even considered working on coding it simply to get it moving. But no one seems to be around anymore...

But you wouldn't do it when I was around. ;p Although it probably wouldn't have mattered since Eirien loves to ignore me or something. ;/

It's not that I wouldn't do it, it's that you asked me when I was in one of my self-depreciating bouts and I didn't believe I actually could do it (which is obviously not true, seeing as I'm getting paid to do it now)...

I didn't take that into consideration since that's rather normal. XD;;

Oh, sure. I'm sure the void that is MSF will suck things right up through the bullet hole. It's science being useful if not paradoxical.

Hoping to draw in the Muffin crowd?

Aren't we supposed to be talking about depressing things in this topic?

That wasn't depressing? Or is subversion fun where you come from? ;p

I know what's depressing: MSF has a bleak future. Beyond a small community it will likely never attain much of any significant impact around the 'Net. It doesn't help that the name is rather disconnected from what inspired the place to begin with. "Where did the name come from?" Is what people will ask. It's not obvious? Nope. It's not the centerpiece nor the sideshow. No one would know how MSF translates into a transformation site with interests in anime, manga and video games. It's akin to an old Wendy's commercial: "Where's the beef?"

But if that's not adequately depressing enough, here's something that may be.

Depressing stuff, ho-oooo!
