But a group is harder to hide, and requires more food and supplies. It's a lot better to dodge the zombie's radar than use up valuable ammunition fending them off, or getting close to them so you can take them down with short-range weapons. And then you'd have to relocate to a safer spot, perhaps to start it all over again, if you survive the skirmish.
Safety in numbers doesn't work so well when you're vastly outnumbered. The only way it could work well is if you know the people well and can depend on their independent actions. It'd give an amount of freedom to survive that a group of people that know next to nothing about each other can manage when they try to suppress each others' actions and/or try to dictate what they think is the right thing to do for everyone else.
Of course, the few things I didn't do perfect on, I can learn to be better at, such as gun accuracy and stamina for running. So my chances of survival could be better if I wanted. ;p
