I think it's a fascinating debate. But nobody should listen to me because I will never, ever, in my lives believe that humanity is just a huge mass of chemical reactions or anything similarly based in science no matter what anyone tells me. Everybody saying emotions are just chemical reactions in the brain. No sir, I will just not buy that. Once humanity begins to think of itself that way, then it is lost beyond hope. Turning humanity into a bunch of machines. Yuck.

Great, now ya'll are gonna start talking about chaos theory, transferring conciousness, cyrogenics, etc. That I don't know about. But I do know that the more you know about everything around you, the ______ life gets.

What's wrong with machines? Trutfhully I believe there is spirit to flesh. But I feel it is a sympathetic relationship.

You're free to start another thread about that which I would surely join in, since that'll likely be my concentration as the years go on in college. :P

Woo, gotta love Biomedical Engineering.

Yeah, truth be told my belief is that the spirit does not fully reside within the body. The body is more like a probe sent from the higher plane of existence.

Wonder if this would make a good separate thread.....

Helel:

Well, I think that I can trust that you're not pulling things out of your rear, so I will accept that I was wrong on a number of things (well, all of the major issues of concern) and that you're right. I had just been sure because I'm certain that I had picked it up from the Discovery channel, then who-knows-where on the Internet, and I've never found a reason to seriously doubt the former before. So much for being a high school dropout, I say! XD

You didn't have to suffer through a semester of Organic Chemistry, but I admit I did a cruddy job of making any form of discussion at first.

Regardless, this was a nice workout for the gray matter. :D

Hmm...

I always thoght that we were muli-cell organisms. So I guess we wouldn't be just normal organisms right? right?

Come over here, Cow Belle, I don't think that bell is around your neck tight enough. :P

If it interests you, go for it. But I will bet that if this discussion got this intense, that such a thread would be at least as heated. MSF has a very large expanse of varying beliefs, especially into the spirit/soul/heart/non-bodily existence and such.

Can humans be vitrilized (wrong spelling?) and brought back?

This is an immortality question.

I have a theory...or as most people might call it, a bunch of malarky. That the body does not truly die until, after having glimpsed what could come after in the moments just before death, people think "Wow. That's a lot better than continuing to live." That point is where you either come back(like people who claim to have been dead for a moment during a delicate surgical procedure but came back) or you don't(the other guys). I think I'll definitely give it a try if I'm in a dying position.

I've got the perfect solution to avoiding bad feelings being thrown around on that one. Unfortunately, I've learned through myself and other people that it's nigh impossible to truly have and keep this view in the face of reality since it really goes against the competetive nature ingrained in humanity.

It goes like this. You have to think "I'm right and you're wrong," but, and here's the hard part, you also have to truly, fully believe that you are wrong and they are right. See? Biggest contradiction in the world. Relies on EVERYBODY being a huge hypocrite and admitting it, too!
The perfect world idea for a Matter universe in an anti-matter universe.

Errrr, I think I've successfully avoided the possibility of any such thread ever appearing...
