Because people want a break from the same old. They're Like Kitkats: "break me off a piece." So you get a little cat with your girl, you see. But where Kitkats are for an appetite, catgirls are for sating an interest. Anything else concerning this interest is just a different "flavor" for different people. Catgirls just happen to be one of the more tastier ones it seems.

From the minds of horny little mongrels. ;p And they did it by fantasizing about girls they couldn't have when they got tired of fantasizing about the same old. Same old? Same old. Huh.

Actually, to be a little more serious, I believe that catgirls are almost exclusively a phenomenon from Japan. Which doesn't necessary mean that it happened in Japan first, but rather that Japan was the one to hit with it internationally and became renowned for it. A part of Japan's culture is probably responsible, as a cat is regarded in particular ways there like many other countries show interest/pride/taboo in other animals.

That'd depend on what time does. If it adds time to their life in such a way as to allow them to live longer ("more time on their hands"), I'd sell it to the elderly. At least in America because of the baby boomers. I know you said, "no elderly," but that's just perfect business sense. ;p Now, in the case that it advances someone's age so they become older, I reckon it wouldn't be approved by the FDA and all that and it'd have to be sold through underground channels to those teenagers that have complaints against people saying they're not grown up enough yet and thus want to be, well, grown up. In the case that it gives someone more time in the standard measure of time, I'd sell it to working adults and/or single parents that need more time to get multiple things done in one day and have time to relax afterward.

That's the best I could come up without being sure that I grasped your meaning.
