Wow, so Aeternalae still hold interest?

Postby Ninian » Wed Jun 20, 2007 8:11 pm

Hi, it's been a long time. I've not posted to this forum since I last "left". Why? Because I basically decided that as long as the administrators didn't do anything with the site, I wasn't obligated to do anything for their community (which the site should be a logical extension of). In any case, I'm impressed that the community is still going strong. I guess a collection of young adults wishing they were hot, sensual, but chaste and innocent anime girls never really dies even if they're given barely breadscraps to continue their fan lust.

I'm even more awed that the Aeternalae are still talked about here. Wow, did I really do something that lasting? I checked the archives and there have been people who have contended to the throne, but I'm still remembered. I'm really, really touched. I'd like to do something for you guys if at all possible, even if it's against my principles to regularly attend a forum for a neglected site. Actually, I think MSF should consider making itself primarily a community site altogether with links to other sites (like one I could/should make for the Aeternalae) and general forums being hosted here. That'd be swell, I'd probably link back to these forums on whatever site I started. Then I'd feel validated in contributing regularly again.

Anyway, where was I? Oh yes. Aeternalae. I originally wrote them a couple years ago here. I was an angrier kid then, and it was an expression of frustration against the world. I made them overpowered and overpowering but apparently what writing skills I had still made them compelling to people even though they were rather two dimensional. Eventually I abandoned them entirely, especially after I began attracting people who saw them as a second coming (no thanks to my storyline which implied they could do that -- again, anger at the world).

Lately though, I've been writing about them again, except from a totally different angle. I've been trying to portray them a lot more neutrally, broadening their roles, and even throwing a bone at negative portrayals of them. The form they're in right now, the one I've been brainstorming the last few months, is actually really solid. For once I don't think I'd need to "update" them at all. The best and most incredible part is, their current "format" doesn't invalidate -any- previous portrayals of them at all. Would it be welcome to share it, or are Aeternalae old news here? Are you all impatient with me, or had enough of my crap? If so, I won't bother you with this. However, if it's really welcome, I got lots to share with an update to their universe. It's not really a fully "open" universe right now in its current form, as the first full-length novel(!!) that concerns this current form is almost finished as there is information I need to withhold so it's more captivating or doesn't risk spoiling the plot. The Aeternalae are more or less in their final form, but if people are sick of hearing about them I won't foist yet another "Aeternalverse" post on you all collectively.

Thanks for hearing me out, and this is a shout out to all of you who remember me. Thank you very much for caring!

You silly person. Share whatever you want; regardless, I can attest that the Aeternalae aren't old news around here.

As for you personally, I'd personally like to see you around more often. To that end, I haven't had enough of your "crap." ;p

Besides, I can't say anything since I've failed to contribute. I'm looking forward to seeing what you've written.

Though I should mention that the Aeternalverse is actually still "under construction". There are three other "Ae" races I want to write more of, that have nowhere near the development of Aeternals: Ewigilenae, Aiborae, Shardalae. A lot of my "expansion" efforts have been in feeling those three out and I'm not above asking for ideas on them. The Aeternalae are, for the most part, in a final form.

Ewigilenae are a form of Ae that embody passion, especially love and hatred. They're all bishonen. They often are bisexual, if "sexual" can be used to describe semi-spiritual beings. I originally wrote them to throw a bone to yaoi fans, since I believe they laid the groundwork for TG acceptance, but I'd like them to be more someday.

Aiborae are a concept I'm still working on, but essentially they're evolved, more spiritual ovalisks -- they have more power, more potential, more self identity but are still the same on the inside. Let's face it -- lolis are always going to be among us in anime-land. Aiborae are not the top of my consideration list.

Shardalae is an idea I've had for a while, but didn't really start shaking on it until I played Crackdown. All I know for sure is that they have the ability to regenerate quickly, and can be killed or disabled endlessly and still not be slowed down. Likewise they can also be TF'd permanently and still have an out as only one "piece" of them is trapped in such a form forever. They're ideal for transformation RPs, since their being back to normal by the next RP has a canonical explanation.

That's a lotta "Ae" ! But the Aeternalae are nowhere near on the shaky ground similar when I first wrote them. I'll share them soon! (probably in the right forum)

I've got a question... Despite this development, is the Aeternalae universe open for writing in at this time, in general? Or is it best to hold thoughts of literary dalliance until things are fleshed out?

A Shardanae makes me think of a T-1000 type of being, except its goal is to reach and transform their target. But that's a completely wrong idea that I've got there, isn't it?

Given I thought of making Shardalae more easily able to take a form like a machine, living doll, or such it's actually not far off. The best way to describe them is a hyper-reincarnating being. However, their powers are generally somewhat limited. They trade it off by being able to travel between world more easily (explanation pending) than other beings, using incarnation. Not sure if they transform so much as attract transformation to them. The other Ae races are still utterly experimental in general. Shardals are where my attention are right now.

The Aeternalae universe is open for writing if people are willing to deal with the fact they're doing it without a full hand. Thus it's probably best if they hold out, however I'm willing to help people write something if they're really overcome by an itch. The novel in question is by Kerina, actually -- she's the one who really brought this new dimension to the Aeternalae, showing that stories don't always have to REVOLVE around them to be really neat and interesting. In fact, her novel is more about the ramifications or results of certain events, and individuals, rather than the Aeternalae directly.

EDIT: Actually, in general, Kerina is the one who brought life back to the Aeternalae for me or showed me how I wasn't done with them and they weren't done inspiring me. So a general thank you to her and her story, I'd be nothing without you! All my love!

Ah, okay, thanks for the explanation about the Shardalae.

And I had just been wondering about the writing portion since I do have something incomplete written up, but I kind of dropped it... I didn't want to bother you with questions, although that's sort of too late now. ^_^; (So I'll cease bothering you now. XD)

I thank Kerina as well. Creativity is always wonderful to see; I only wish that I could be more creative so I can give back.

Welcome back, Nina! Of course I remember you. :) And one of the things I remember was that we always got along rather well. So no worries there. :) I never got into the whole Eternals thing (it seemed a hotbed of controversy, so I decided to stay out of it), but if you have fiction, by all means share. Given that they're still alluded to, I'm more than certain there are people who would enjoy seeing it. :)

That doesn't describe everyone here though... it's grown to include all sorts, which I personally think is one of the best things about this place. It's not so exclusive.

By the way, the Ewies are being worked on. The last thing I remembered was that I was "given" them, and then I handed them over to X cause he's a lot better with them... I just help him out. I think he's doing very well. :D

Incidentally, I had an Ewigil character in one of my webcomic ideas ^^; So no, they're not neglected.

Anyways, I dont' think it's a good post for the Universe section, feels a bit awkward there somehow.

Somehow I doubt anything he came up with would contradict too much with what I was thinking. Basically, every Ae race has a reasion for living above all things. Aeternalae live to increase potential in all that's around them using the power of change. Ewigilenae live to increase passion in the universe, also invoking the power of change (though not as trigger happy as many Aeternalae, who are nearly addicted to it).

It would work, since it isn't a must to make a Universe to roleplay in (plus stories, artwork and such; you know, all things associated with a universe). I don't think that anyone will fault you for posting in this room, the Tea room, or... Hmmmm... What else is there... Well, the Muffin room isn't a very serious place... <.<; I'm sure you'll pick a good place to post it, unless you post in a bad place on purpose. ;p

I have a question... It has been floating around in my head for a while, but this topic has inspired me to present it differently than how I had first intended. In this unfinished story that I had mentioned, I had decided to dabble with a new (more or less) "Ae" race. It was one of the reasons why I had put the story down since I didn't know how it would have been received, and whether or not I would have ended up writing something that wouldn't do to have seen publicly. So, I was wondering... So long as it makes sense and doesn't contradict what foundations already exist, is it possible for a new race to exist? If so, I wouldn't mind sharing it with you... I have a whole backstory and all those fun details.
