honestly i would have spent like 1 hundred more and went with a cheap hp.

e-machines are beyond horrible... at least there self destruct rate is.

but i guess something is better then nothing.

I got myself an emachine back in 2001 or so. Pretty much around the time I first came on to MSF, and the thing lasted me to early 2007 without problems. Then the only reason I had a problem then was because I never cleaned the thing and it overheated.

No they aren't that upgradable, but they aren't horrible. At least not in my experience.

I've had mine (eMachines, of course) for two years without a hitch. I only wish I had more RAM.

I'd say you guys are exceptions to the rule.

But oh well, emachines have one thing going for them, price.

However you go about it, good to say you on your way back!

Good luck with your computer Josie, given from my experience, it was hard not to destroy my eMachines in about four hundred ways a day.

Being exceptional is nice. ;p

But, hey, maybe it just depends on the environment and how you use it. Being poor and all, I have to be careful and make things stretch; so I hardly ever push my computer's limits.

On the other hand, my sister had an HP that seemed to fry itself after only a few months, bought brand new. It just depends on things, I guess.

You do have a point, but the fact that I and my brother were able to use Windows ME without many problems (short of your normal windows problems) doesn't mean the OS was any good.

The fact of the matter is that eMachines are fairly cheap and as the saying goes, you get what you pay for.

You do have a point, but if the best things in life are free, then the cheaper the better. :P

My dad and I had eMachines. Mine died after several years because we never cleaned the inside and it overheated XD His is still going strong.

well the main issue is if your lucky enough to get one without a PS(or other) issue as the ones the e-machines gets are extremely cheap. And if the PS dies it'll very often bring down other things with it like the MB etc... As they don't supply you with the actual windows disc either and there windows are e-machines specified replacing the mb will require you to get a new windows os... and so on and so forth... in short once one part of a e-machines breaks down.... it's pretty much gonna trash the rest of the machine in succession.

The PS issue sounds like what happened with the new HP a few years back. The power supply went and the guy at Best Buy said it must've taken the MB and the drives with it.

I think that's what happened to mine. And I blame the dust choking the PS and PS cooling unit that never got cleaned when the rest of the case got cleaned every year or so.

My first computer was an emachines... me and my bro got identical ones for christmas one year... they went well for a full two years... before the RAM in mine imploded and the Motherboard in my bro's got fried. Put together, they'd make a decent computer.

The power supply in my mother's computer exploded and took the entire motherboard with it. It was an eMachines as well. Lasted maybe two years.
