First Anime con.

I am going to be going to my first anime convention this next saturday/sunday, and i was wondering,

what were your expectations from your first Convention? what were things that blew your mind? what were things that made you feel like they fell a little short on you list? Did you cosplay at your first Convention?

personally, i can't wait to go because well, i am a MAJOR otaku, i own a small amount of manga, and i own a few dvd's but i have never gone to a convetion before because most of the conventions i have heard of were in like new york or in california but nope, this one is a few hours away from my very own town and its going to be awesome, but along wioth my wonderings one thing bugs me,

Cosplay, i want to cosplay, but unfortunately...its a little late, sure i could take the lazy man's way out and just do an L cosplay, but i want to do something that is wild, crazy and wacky, even for an anime con.

Were you at Otakon, by any chance? I ask because I was there, too. What did you think of it? Me, I love cons. It's like another world. There's an energy there you don't find anywhere else. And this year more than in the past, I got a sense of almost solidarity. Like I was really with like-minded people. Though perhaps that was because I was wearing Gothic Lolita, and kept talking to all my fellow fashion fans. :) As my brother commented at one point, it really is, in its own way, a sisterhood. But then he started calling us the Frilly Mafia.... But I digress.
I didn't cosplay my first time out- at Otakon five years ago, actually. I would have liked to, but I had mere weeks notice before attendance, and as I can't sew, there was no time. I only started dressing up a year or two ago. As I'm sure you saw, while it adds to the experience, it's certainly not compulsory. I think when I was first there, what blew my mind was... well, everything. I always say my first time there was a total sensory overload. There was something going on all the time, and I constantly had something to see, to do; crazy things and bright colors everywhere, all over the place. Besides, it was where I was first introduced to Gothic Lolita, which has, as you can see, had lasting effects on my interests. Overall, I just love cons and hope not to cease attending any time soon.

W_W you kept talking about otakon, but if you had read my post, my FIRST anime con is coming up in this next weekend(15-17) and its supposedly called the 'Anime World Festival' Or something along that line,

but unfortunately like you said, i was told in exactly a weeks advance before the con and i have a few things i can use for the costumes, i could easily pull off:

the slacker's cosplay : L
the easy cosplay: Light
the difficult cosplay: Vash

and now because of what you said i know a little more about Gwen, whom is one of the few people on MSF that i don't know a whole lot about.

Sorry, I was tired and misinterpreted into thinking you were going to the convention that weeked. When you come back from a con, it's a bit of a bubble, really. You lose track of time, to an extent. Sorry to misunderstand. My head was still in con mode and not fully back in the real world, yet.... I say if you can pull off Vash, go for it. Though he's a favorite character of mine, so I'm biased.

You should go for it. Though if it doesn't have all the buckles and buttons and is simple, Ed might be a better choice. Just wear it with black pants and a black shirt, and you'll be okay. It wouldn't be too hard.

Every convention I've been to for anime/gaming/whatever has been with me on staff.

So I can't really say much as being an attendee or anything.

hmm been a while since my first con, then again i've been going to them since i was like 12-13. so about 10 years. Can't really recall to much on what my thoughts were back then but it was a Sci fi convention.

The thing about cosplay is please even if your lazy, please do a good/passable/manageable job (it's easy to tell who's trying and who's not even with L/Kaji/etc cosplays - casual cloths with minor details)...

fat faye's and such honestly, please go get hit by a car... my eyes can only take so much punishment.

personally i don't cosplay, far to lazy to bother so can't really give any indepth tips on it.

XD to guen on the ed cosplay: one of my friends are already going as ed...so having two of the same costume on cosplayers from the same group = kinda weird even for anime lovers.

to Zero: Trust me, i dont like cosplayers that do a bad/ horrible on purpose job anymore than you....*shudders* SAILOR BUBBA, EVERYONE RUN!!!!

Not necessarily. One of my brother's favorite con stories is a time he saw a couple, one male and one female, both cosplaying as Inuyasha- kissing. Said it kind of did weird things in the head, for a moment....
