This doesn't really change anything. Nobody is going to call fish sea kittens just because PETA says so.

I'm sure that Beyond would be in favor of eating Land Fish, though.

Are the effin' serious?
But yeah, I'm with Sam. I don't think people are gonna start calling them sea kittens just because PETA told us to.
Besides, a lot of fishermen do it for fun and not profit.

My dad likes to say PETA stands for People who Eat Tasty Animals... heh.
Personally... animals are dumb, emotion-driven creatures who live in the moment. Sure they are cute, and a lot of them can be fuzzy, and what some people do to them makes them deserve to be strung up by their nethers... (the people, not the animals)
But when it comes down to it... PETA is just a group of people trying to impose their views on others...
I mean hell... I like animals. I try to be decent to them. But... I feel no guilt over eating them. Because... they are dead. Me not eating them isnt going to change the fact that they are dead, packaged, and sitting on a grocery store shelf.
I do feel guilty when I get fresh (ala-alive) lobster... because I do think that being boiled to death cant be a good way to go... and I wouldnt go hunting... because I dont like killing anything that isnt an insect or pixelated...
But in the end, animals are animals. And they are tasty. ^_^

People are tasty, too. ;p
I don't care for PETA. It doesn't address my view on things, at all. Plus, all they're doing is being delusional, since humans are omnivores. Just kill what you need for living (not for sport) and leave it at that, is what I think. Variety is the spice of life, after all. Humanity didn't make it this far being vegetarians.

That's true, you know. From a purely biological standpoint, humans are evolved to eat meat. Our teeth and digestive systems have both developed to process it, and we get many vital nutrients from it as well. I believe that the animals raised for their meat need to be treated humanely, but we should not all be forced to become vegans in the name of that. I heard about this "sea kittens" thing some time ago, though (to get back on the primary subject), and found it absurd. Basically, it's operating under the belief that if it sounds cute, people won't eat it. The online friend who told us this story said that, when she told a real-life friend that theory, he responded with, "Well, I happen to think the word 'sushi' is cute, and I eat it all the time." Yeah, not so effective. Just makes people think PETA is more absurd than it already seems.

Perhaps they're banking on, ehem, hooking the younger folk and hope it sticks with them when their generation becomes more advanced in years.

I think fish are cute... I used to go fishing for... damn it whats the name... sunfish? They were golden little fish that made nests of white or yellow dirt in the brown or black lake bed you could spot from the shore...
The things were cute as can be... and I wouldnt dream of killing any of them. But that didnt stop me from baiting them, hooking them, and reeling them in to gaze upon them... probably causing them quite a traumatic experience before I released them back into the lake.
It was just my way of appreciating nature's beauty ^_^
Once I caught a Pike... now THAT was an ugly and evil sod of a fish... tiny thing took em 10 mins to reel in... and it was all muscle. Had teeth like you wouldnt believe... Bit right through my line as I reeled it in to try to get it off my hook. Good thing about that was I didnt have to put my fingers near its maw then... bad part was that the evil little bleeder landed in the bottom of my boat...

The face of a sea kitten. It's a trap!
I'm not buying the cute thing. Besides, fish are good food. Seems to do a lot of good for a lot of cultures that rely heavily on fish as a source of food, anyway.

"Sea-kitten and Chips" doesn't have quite the same ring to it as "Fish and Chips" do.
