I respect an animal that can fight for its life so well.

Let it live and set it free.

Shot Duck Survives 2 Days in Fla. Fridge

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Neither gunfire nor two days in a refrigerator could slay this duck.

When the wife of the hunter who shot it opened the refrigerator door, the duck lifted its head, giving her a scare.

The man's wife "was going to check on the refrigerator because it hadn't been working right and when she opened the door, it looked up at her," said Laina Whipple, a receptionist at Killearn Animal Hospital. "She freaked out and told the daughter to take it to the hospital right then and there."

The 1-pound female ring-neck ended up at Goose Creek Wildlife Sanctuary, where it has been treated since Tuesday for wounds to its wing and leg.

Sanctuary veterinarian David Hale said it has about a 75 percent chance of survival, but probably won't ever be well enough to be released back into the wild.

He said the duck, which has a low metabolism, could have survived in a big enough refrigerator, especially if the door was opened and closed several times. And he said he understands how the hunter thought the duck was dead.

"This duck is very passive," Hale said. "It's not like trying to pick up a Muscovy at Lake Ella, where you put your life in your hands."

That sounds like the current plan, if the duck survives...

In the first place, he never deserved to die.

Just be glad that the hunter wasn't thorough enough as to ring the duck's neck. Any decent hunter would do that to ensure its death once captured.

Wow, what an intense duck. XD

Though it doesn't surprise me that a wannabe redneck from Tallahassee didn't do the job 'right' in the first place. Tallahassee is in Florida for a REASON. XD

Anyways, being from Tallahassee, I know all about Lake Ella mentioned in the last line, and the ducks there are indeed MONSTERS and will attack you if you get too close. They're vicious.

Are they related to our geese? Canadian Geese are EVIL INCARNATE @_@

Maybe by distant species relations. Though, I'm fairly sure the ducks at Lake Ella are that way due to constant conditioning from exceptionally obnoxious spoiled kids which the park there never seems to be lacking.

That and I'm sure the ducks there and Canadian Geese regularly fight in such ways that it could be televised. XD

Yeah, those big black ducks with the red noses are really obnoxious. I got there to draw sometimes and they make these weird noises and get all up in my face, so I throw a rock at their feet to make them go away.

The worst thing is that all those birds make it almost impossible to have a good picnic at Lake Ella.

They have multiple movies of those evil geese randomly attacking people. In fact, it's a de-facto guideline around here never to go near one, as they tend to assault ANYTHING that gets too close. Among things captured on film are attacks on people, dogs, cats, other geese...
