A dismal view of reality

This is the kind of notion that makes me wonder why I'm even here, to bother myself with these kind of thoughts. *Sighs* Oddly enough, it turns out to support my view of everything being nothing.

And no, I'm not trying to convince anyone. I just delivered it the way that I did because I couldn't work out a better way at the time. It's also due to how I tend to think to myself, which is like talking to another person, so... <.<;

_____

The whole of existence is probability. There is no "you", there is no "me" or "us", only everything. While you think and act the way you want to because you have free will, does that mean that you really have free will? Take into consideration your development, starting before your birth. Do you get to choose how you look when you come into the world? Not at all. Then, once you are born, it is only due to your body, not your conscious mind, that you have any means at all of taking any action to survive. From then onward your conscious mind develops from experiences in your environment, and you learn how to interact with said environment. These experiences are not of your choice and, even if they were, are they ever truly your choice? As your mind grows from absorbing experience from external sources, your choices will be based on how you develop, and how you develop is wholly dependent on your experiences in early life. From there, your choices are inspired by those experiences, and then your choices are inspired by the experiences that resulted from prior choices. And during that time you still have experiences that you did not choose to experience. In the end we all end up the same, becoming products of the experiences. There is no such thing as random, only probability. No matter what you choose to do, you choose to do so because you are who you are and thus capable of doing so, sane or insane. Our conscious mind is just as complex yet simple in its function as the universe is, in that a certain this with a certain that will produce such and such. It is a veritable arena of elements, as well as the rudimentary foundations for those elements. Which is why the result would be the same if you rewound history and played a part of your life again, as a watcher. Your past self would make the same choices because they will be basing those choices on how they develop as themselves; no element of their life or memory would be different and thus they don't develop in such a way as to choose differently. Even if you repossessed your body in the past from some time in the future, you're still choosing no differently even if you change your past, because you are who you are whenever you make a choice, at any time, for you are never who you choose to be. Just because you think differently from others doesn't mean that you have free will. At best, free will is just the capability of a sentient entity to make more choices because the circumstances were right for it, circumstances beyond your control and choice. Just like the rest of the universe, we act in certain ways and react to certain things in the same circumstances each time. And by same, I mean no difference, however minute. That's where the complexity enters the picture; this isn't on the level of two hydrogen molecules bonding with one oxygen molecule, but a level far more complex, in circumstances just as complex.

We're just one of countless things that are probability. Everything is probability, which you can aliken to chaos, being neither this nor that, but a product of everything every now, then and later. Being anything else is just a fantasy.

"You didn't come here to make the choise; you've already made it; you're here to understand why you made it." I think the Oracle's words sum that up nicely and I agree to an extent of what you say. It's all causality.

And have you seen the movie the Butterfly Effect? It's really awesome how the main character is able to go back in time and make different choises in his life, and see the consequences of those choises when he returns to his present time. It just came to mind since you mentioned 'even if you managed to go back in your life and make a different choise you would still be you, and most likely dislike yourself or your situation'

No, I haven't seen that movie.

'even if you managed to go back in your life and make a different choise you would still be you, and most likely dislike yourself or your situation'

I never said that last part. ;p

I agree with the first sentence. After that, well, I think you're making some wrong assumptions about exactly how probability works. There's no determinism involved, and what aspects are deterministic are only that way because the people involved have focused their attention so closely on specific ongoing probabilities as to make them appear deterministic.

If you followed what I just said, you deserve a prize. Sadly, I'm all out. You do deserve one, though.

Actually, you didn't understand what I wrote. More than once I described it as non-determining, even when someone determines something.

Things are What they are.

Simple and sweat. That's how I keep it.
=)

It can be aplied to most anything.

Why is for example, Why is Someone a bitter person?
They are bitter, caues there from bitterness.
