It's just one of those things. Often I hear people referring to ships and cars as if they were female, so I figured that it wouldn't hurt to see what others thought and did in this regard.

Unless I have some reason to, I stick to leaving such things as, well, things. Even if I know it's alive I'll probably refer to something as an "it" if I can't tell what sex it is. Which calls for another poll!

I always use "it" when referring to anything non-human, even if I'm talking about ships or cars or other things that many people refer to as "she". I've always wondered why ships are called "she" and "her"; I assume it's a way of showing special affection for something as if you loved it.

I don't think I've ever heard anything personified as "he".

I am completely inconsistent on what pronoun I assign any given inanimate object, I really am.

Inanimate = Without a sex, unless it is given a name. But I rarely name inanimate objects.

Sometimes. Depends on my mood and the object in question. If it's something I work with a lot or whatever, I tend to be more likely to think of it as gendered. For instance, one of my co-workers swears the copier is female because, as she puts it, it's "moody," like having PMS or whatever. But the one in the old building definitely seemed male, to me. Just weird things like that.

Yup! I assign gender-specific pronouns to lots of stuff!
And it's always "she"... I don't know why >.>
For some reason, if you assign an inanimate object a gender, it's almost always a woman.

It depends what it is and how its behaving when I assign it a name and sex. No one, least of all myself, knows how my thought process works so its not random just really unknowable XD

I usually use "it" but it can depend on what it is, and what it's doing.

So far I find that I often use male pronouns, typically for things like computers. But I also call them a b****, when they're acting like one. XD;

Sophia names and attributes gender to inanimate objects, but it's kinda random.

An inanimate object is just that, it has no gender. Much like how I won't name any sort of gadget or device something like a proper name since they are unworthy of one. To give them such would be to assign them a higher station than they are entitled to.

I find that cars that are new and cars that are being restored are often referred to as 'she'...but then when you get the junker cars that are just there to get you from point A to B they're usually called 'he'...I think it's funny...but most people disagree with me on that point.

It's all conditional.

I prefer to think of most objects as an it, unless I have the suspicion that it is not what it seems.
