Option 1 -- Positive
Option 2 -- Negative (strongly)
Option 3 -- Negative (moderately)
Option 4 -- Negative (slightly)
Option 5 -- Filler

Not really serious polling material, but given the humorous nature of the options in question it's a bit unfair to judge too harshly. Regardless, I wish people didn't treat polls in general so lightly or as something superfluous. But that's just my opinion.

But pools are something irrelevant and superfluous :\

They are not going to change the world.

Why? Because they reflect people's opinions, and people's opinions mean nothing?

Yeah, that's what Big Brother would like you to think.

Indeed, no use being rude about it. We're s'posed to be a community here, last I checked, not a collection of people with a tendency towards hissy fits.

I'm sure nobody was injured in the making of this poll.
If you show me some corpses of people who were, maybe I'll listen. ;D

Arkain, who are you to say what is "supposed" to be? I'll agree though that this is "supposed" to be a community and it isn't one due to it being braindead (thank you, Sakura).

I'll also ask respectfully that you don't include me when you say "we". You have nothing to do with me, I'll have nothing to do with you -- were both better off for it, unless you have an issue with me which I suggest you take up with me in private.

I'm not really a part of the machine. I'm here because I want to see what'll happen when Sakura comes back. I'm a spectator. Include me in this forum's horrible tendency towards groupthink and you'll get burned.

Nina Anilina wrote:The Darfur genocide has been going on right around the same time. How come people don't care about that? There is another holocaust going on right now and people are worried about something as petty as the name of a console, as if it changes anything whatsoever. The crap going on in Africa right now is something that makes Hitler look like freaking Shirley Temple yet no one but me seems to be talking about it. There is already a thread on this topic in the video game room anyway.

Anybody want to see some pictures of the corpses?

I'm a libertarian. This of course includes the point that we shouldn't be concerned about some people being more concerned over the name for the Revolution over Darfur. It's their own opinion. Sure, Darfur is shameful, but on the other hand, think about what American intervention there would get us... (Not to mention how it flies in the face of libertarian mentality. I'm something of a closet isolationist, at least in so far as we shouldn't be policing the world. So sue me.)

Nina Anilina wrote:People who constantly bitch and moan about the Wii's name now find themselves ranked just below graphics whores in my list of "People involved in the game culture who have a clue as to what makes anything good".

I stand with the crowd that says "A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet." I suspect it'll shake stuff up, but I'm not going to buy it until it produces a must-have game. Hopefully they don't screw up like they did with the DS and release only gimmicky games for a year.

Please keep this on-topic. This is about "Wii", not Darfur or anything else brought up as a result of it. Please discuss those topics somewhere else. Other than the other "Wii" topic in the Video Game room. <.<;

Why single out Darfur with all the other things getting worse in the world at the moment, Nina? Israel-Palestine has heated up for example and Nepal is on the verge of collapse as well. For that matter i could bring up the rekindling of hostilities in Sri Lanka or the increased tension between Israel and Iran. Now i don't want you to take it as a critique of you i am just increasing the perspective by mentioning some of the stories a bit lower in the headlines. There really are a lot of things getting worse in the same day people complain about this thing and singling out Darfur is a disservice to the rest of those out there. It is almost as bad as when all activity in Denmark stops for a day and all newscoverage for a month gets pointless because one of the princes might have gotten a new girlfriend.

These non-important news are just getting too much. As for why it is mostly because people get the most emotional over things relating to their everyday life and only a very few gamers have any kind of relations to Darfur, most could probably not even tell what country it is in if they have even heard about it. Nintendos new console however is a topic that is highly relevant for the hobby they spent large amounts of time on and thus is very present in their minds. It is a selective focus, probably meant as a survival mechanism back when humans were still mostly preoccupied with that, as quite a large amout of all humans in fact still are.

Very well, then, I shall simply name you rude. Forget groupthink, think instead common decency. I will cease acknowledging your existence unless you apologize for your rudeness in a contrite manner or posts unless they written in a polite (or at least neutral) manner.
I feel no particular need to associate with impolite people, thank you.

That said, moving on to the proper discussion...

"Wii is a silly place. Let's not go there." ;D
Does it even mean anything in Japanese? Or any other language?
Perhaps the translation, if one exists, which doesn't appear likely, would make for an interesting name.
As it stands, though, it's not all that great.
Perhaps the plan is to get people to notice it and then change it back at the last minute and get them to notice that.

Argh. Sorry NM64, but I'm going to lock this thread for now. May be unlocked later.

*Shifts attention to Terra and Arkain*

Terra, as I stated before your post, please take Darfur and other related topics elsewhere. NM64 made this poll for a reason and this isn't it. You could have (and still can) make a new thread and carry on the discussion there.

Arkain, what you and Nina have going is personal and should be handled somewhere private. Including something relevent to the topic in your post doesn't invalidize that. ^_^;

Well, Wii does bring in a great deal of silly jokes but as a diehard PC gamer I probably won't buy it...unless I come into a great deal of money and I have nothing better to spend it on :D
