I think I know what this stream of consciousness is, but I can't recall it very well. Last time that I came across one, I remember there being a lack of details that would have done the story good. Details from other perspectives.

Understood and agreed. Though, I lack a large amount of experience on this matter, and, the times when I CAN read, are the t imes when nothing is pen to borrow a book... ><
Forays into oddity can be explained easily, but, missing punctuation can take the average reader to absolute confusion, more or less repelling them from said text.

On that last statement I wholeheartedly agree. Missing puctuation really sets me off. Oddities, I'm fine with. But dag nab it, gimmie my commas and periods and other seasonings of grammar!

Mmhmm. School starts on the tenth for me; The perfect opportunity will soon arise! I shall become...employed!
Of course, adding punctuation to stream of consciousness might change it into something else; Which could, in fact, make it more confusing than it already is...

A job in proofing might be good.... If people took the advise. A few years back, I did some volunteer proofing/editing for some of the stuff submitted here and elsewhere - mostly with Griever's stuff, and a little for Jay/Jei, but.... People got busy, I got busy, and things went by the wayside...

I'm a writer, so I use them when the rules state. In my case, this means the semicolon is never used if it can be avoided and the colon is very, very rare.

:p

;p

See them doing there jobs. ^_^

However, in writing I don't use them all the much unless I need to.

Interesting. Stream of conciousness I find quite useful when I am in my planning sessions. Sadly when I write this way everything comes out in a present tense run on statement. I have to go back over it about 3 times to make it readable to a general person. I used to actually have a editor that could help do that because I tend to forget some detailing work that is needed even on 3 runs over the product. Nikkou, I believe that Guendolen is right on trying to use that. It might help make the writing easier.

Maybe. I'm, at the very least, decent using other perspectives. I can probably be decent at stream of consciousness as well. It's just some punctuation (like the colon and semi-colon) that I'm unsure of. I may check wikipedia later and see what that place has... XD

And thanks to Aura, I now know what an ellipsis is. I hadn't realized that I made sport of that one as well. ^_^;

Another thing that I wonder about, are paragraphs. Though I'm sure that I'm not all that good with paragraphs... If a paragraph were a house, I'd call it a shoddy two-bedroom with a few habitation laws broken (or nearly so).

Hmmmm... I guess it's a good thing that this is my topic. It's very rare that I ever care if one were to dare to get into my hair with an off-topic flare.

...

Wow. I got in my rhymes with a pun and a reference to Michael Jackson. FEAR ME. U_U

Punctuation is the foundation of our sentences....well, beyond words....and letters....and not factoring in the arabic symbols most current languages I know are based on, but after that, punctuation marks are the keys to the kingdom. Believe in the power of ":"! Fight for ";" with all your heart!

See, I'm lucky with my job, in that they let me change anything I want. Theres a problem with a letter, I just go and fix it directly. I have the power. :) So there's no worries about people not "taking advice" there.

I tend to use colons a lot more than semi colons for a number of reasons:

Colons are useful for bulleted lists
I rarely make a sentence that needs a semicolon
Colons are just cuter.
LorekeeperEirien: That is quite possibly the most hillariously disturbing comment I've heard all day
