I'd use Prinnies. They're funny, devoted (unless you make a stupid mistake causing you to lose most, if not all of your power), and if you're bored, you can always kick them around a bit.

Plus if they're terrible at doing your work, you can always use them as weaponry!

Koopa troopas. While they may backfire and give the hero 99 lives, their versatility is unrivaled. Flying, red, green, on foot, you name it. A properly coordinated shell slam attack is fatal to even the most firey-powered pasta pundit.
