Okay, so I dunno how many people will know or care about this, so here goes a brief explanation:

Recently (read: two months ago), the U.S. Postal Service increased normal snail mail rates by two cents, from $.39 to $.41 (yay, I can do math).

Now, the reasoning behind this is because they haven't increased rates while fuel costs have gone, well, crazy.

So, the two cents is gonna help pay for the difference in fuel. Why is this a problem? Well, they then said they are never increasing the rates cost ever again.

So, now to vote on what people think on this piece of randomness. XD

Not very much is constant. Especially not mail rates.

Remain that price forever? Nope. In fact, it's more likely to increase than decrease, especially while the dollar's value continues to plummet. I remember when stamps were at $0.29, back when I was but a lad. I can not remember the rate ever going down once during my lifetime.

It won't go down. Haven't you seen the movie Paycheck? It must reach 50 cents so we know what years the movie could have taken place in!

well postage mail has dropped significately also in the past decade since the internate age, however shipped goods has increased to balance that out... technically.... i doubt it'll be forever... anything with the disclaimer forever is bs... maybe long enough that you'll be dead before it happens but not forever.

Just as a bit of background to this poll, I work for a lawfirm which like other law offices, like to produce lots and lots of mail.

That said, before this recent rate increase, the postage for mail was entirely based on weight. So if your letter was in a certain range of weights, it would cost so much.

Well, now, the rates are mainly done by weight. But they also added a bunch of other stuff as additional factors for determining postage. These include, but are not entirely limited to: rigidity of the package, the size of the package (thickness is big here, but also length and width play in), and in some cases, the destination of the package plays into the cost (not just out of the country, obviously, but also within the States).

So yeah, some of these factors are a little vague, and after some discussions about that sort of stuff, the office kinda decided that the postal service is trying to save the money by just reducing the amount of mail shipped and whatnot, cause in many cases, it's just easier to send stuff via faxes or email. x_X;;
