Roleplaying

I got this idea in reference to something Syllinia mentioned about my descriptions, so here we go:
How descriptive are you when you're roleplaying (in general, including freeform, tabletop, whatever)?

I chose "decently" though I tend to alternate between that and "some," and on occassion "bunches." It seems to depend on the kind of RP, what is happening at the moment, and how much I can actually think of saying. XD;

I include lots of details to make sure that the reader has as good a grasp as possible on what's happening.
Of course, some things don't require a lot of description. If I shoot a gun as someone, it's usually wasteful to mention anything other than the particular body part I'm aiming for, and maybe the type of gun it is. It's definitely a judgment call.

I prefer to go the "loads" or "epic" routes, so that's why I can rarely be seen doing any kind of serious roleplaying... Because I rarely have the attention span for such things. For instance, I've been away from IRC more often than I'd like because I promised someone a transformation and I'd rather not enjoy IRC that much until I can get down with the descriptions and all that.
When I'm goofing around and/or when I'm in a non-serious environment I don't really consider myself to be roleplaying or anything; it's just myself being idiotic. In that way I prefer to not stick to anything that requires too much effort or attention or else I'll end up shorting myself out.
And so, I put down epic, because that's really what I set my sights on whenever I get into something seriously. Anything less would be uncivilized. ;/

I generally go for a decent description if I can but it depends on the situation most of the time.

I tend to flux between very descriptive, to relative.
like BD said, it can depend on the situation. There is only so much I can put into "I kick you" before it gets exceedingly excessive.

My foot soared from the ground, kicking up dust in its wake, as it entered my foe's personal space. With the sickening sound of flesh meeting flesh did I cave in his family jewels with my five-toed appendage. While the pain that shot up my leg was something fierce, I considered the high-pitched peals of agony coming from my enemy to be well worth it.
How about that? :O

That would have to be the final blow... or that exchange would get old real fast. XD;
Anyways, I generally try to be as descriptive as possible where it's necessary, and will repeat descriptions to a certain extent until a shorter phrase can be equated to the same thing. This goes mainly towards describing objects, while for actions, it really depends.
Obviously if I'm goofing around, my lack of seriousness will show, but I put a bit of effort in, for comic effect. But if it's drama or a fight and the magic and swords start clashing, I try to be very explicit when something out of the ordinary comes into play, like describing an unusual technique, expression, or whatever.
I like things to be cinematic, but I'll minimize descriptions when something is repeated in a session of roleplay.

I tend to write a lot. I went for "bunches" because sometimes my posts will be succinct, if they don't need to be verbose. Though I can certainly be quite wordy whenever the case seems to call for it. It's the writer in me that does it.

I love describing the surroundings, but it's something that takes me a little more than the spur of the moment thing. I'm getting better though! Every time I DM at D&D I try my hardest to elaborate and paint the picture for the players so they can get into the game and metagame a lot less.
Plus I totally made up a scary story with a haunted house in my drama class and it (presumably) scared people more than the concrete stories....anywayz...enough boasting on my part.
I enjoy describing the world to people...it's just that simple...

Au contraire! There is a way to immortalize the moment! Watch... And learn!
And so I proceeded to cast my hands up toward the heavens above and call him by his true name. And look! There before me did he present himself, the halo about his head shining bright. I bowed down to him in both reverence and fear when he turned to regard me, hoping for my Lord's forgiveness. He soon spake unto me, saying, "I, thine Lord and savior, shalt smite thy foe, so that thou may continue to place thine faith in me."
And so Chuck Norris went on to give my foe a roundhouse kick to the head, and, upon seeing that the remnants of his shattered head had been sucked into the vacuum left behind by his mighty feat, where they were soon atomized, he did so proclaim that the result had been good.
See? A classic that never gets old. ;/

I'm not very good at describing, but I tend to do my best. It's really fun cause you get to know allot more about the the character or place your describing and it makes it more fun, I suppose.

I write novel quality I think. I always do my best with words but there's always a more intuitive way to get the point across.
