What do you do when Christmas becomes overwhelming?

Postby Metroidvania » Mon Dec 24, 2007 4:15 pm

I had kind of forgotten how my family can be at Christmas, and was thusly inspired to make this last minute poll.

What do you do when Christmas becomes overwhelming, when that feeling of good cheer gets buried beneath all your anxieties about cooking, cleaning, having the right gifts, having gifts at all, or anything to that nature...becomes too much?

Eat the christmas tree. Not a whole lot else to say about that.

The cake is a lie! :O

Although, if the option were there, I'd say that I'd hide. Because my worries are different and all (having a lot of people over... they're having the dinner here Y.Y).

Generally this is my typical mindset, but any time when something gets overwhelming or out of hand, I find something amusing about the situation, laugh it off, and move on.

It's worked well for years and I have yet to have a mental breakdown yet. A considerable feat, given the lunatics I have in my family.

I'll be honest, I never feel overwhelmed by holidays since I'm a bit of a jerk and don't worry about other people much (Case in point I don't think I've ever given anyone a Christmas gift.). But if I did I would handle it like I do when I'm overwhelmed by anything else. Take a breath and then deal with it anyway.

There was nothing in there about rushing in headlong screaming a battle cry, so I went with the first one.

Figure out the source of the frustration and anxiety and tackle it head on.

I don't do Chrismas, that makes it easier.

I do what I normally do under too much stress, I lock myself in the least used restroom in our house and lie there with the lights off.

I believe I've said it before; I don't like Christmas. I like the attics much better when its cold outside like it commonly is...It's relaxing, and I can still get an internet connection up there.
