Pretty straight-forward. I prefer cream of wheat, but they keep bringing home oatmeal...

I don't much care for either one. Sorry.

I really like both, but I put Cream of Wheat. I haven't gotten to eat it much lately, but I ate it allllllllll the time when I was a tiny Musa. So it holds nice breakfast memories for me. My mom used to make a maple syrup smiley face in the bowl. :3

Count yourself lucky. Mom used to give us disgusting instant Quaker Oats, and they were these horrible things that somehow managed to be sticky and gloppy and wet all at once, and she would make us double portions because "one just wasn't enough." The idea behind this whole thing being that it was cold out and, according to her, we needed something that would "stick to our ribs." I guess she meant it was supposed to be warm and hearty, but I always had a mental image of ribs with globs of oatmeal adhered to them.... Eventually we would try to find ways to discreetly dispose of the stuff- other than actually eating it, of course. To this day, I don't think she knows how much we disliked it....

I've always liked Oatmeal, but I didn't begin to really favor it until after Philmont. It's awesome for backpacking. And not much else, for me.
Cream of wheat is something I don't prefer at all. Same goes to grits, even though that was unmentioned here. An atrocity to any true southerner, I'm sure.

I thought cream of wheat was grits.
I've lived in the south for more than half of my life and I can attest that grits (as opposed to however cream of wheat is made) is the kind of thing that should be reserved for rations out in the field or something. I wouldn't want it to desecrate a kitchen. ;/

Two separate things.

They have similar textures, but while cream of wheat is made from ground wheat, grits is a corn porridge thing.
I would like to note that friends and I, having traveled to the north, have convinced people that we were grit farmers that collected grits from grit trees, and fought off grit weevils. And people would believe us. It's so sad yet it's true.

What's sad is hearing someone say that the South is filled with gun-toting idiots and drunk drivers and seeing the proof on TV. All of the South East states are in the top twenty for drunk driving, for instance. (Although I'm not sure about Tennessee, Alabama or Mississippi being considered South East; but they're in the top twenty, too. At least as far as I was able to gather over the Internets. I could only find info as recent as 2005.)

(Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi are DEFINITELY Southeast/South. Big time. Seriously. XD)
Anyways, it's well known and often parodied that people will believe anything they see on the tube. So I don't see that as being sad. But when people can be lead on when you're obviously lying, that's sad. There were times me and my buddies would try not to laugh, and people wouldn't take a hint at all. XD
But yes. Oatmeal > Cream of Wheat = Grits, in order of preference in my opinion. With odds being stacked way against Cream of Wheat and Grits. I can't take the texture. But I can for Oatmeal, for some reason. I dunno, maybe it's got greater viscosity?

You like the texture of maggots in pus? That's oatmeal, for ya.

(I'm not dissing oatmeal. I enjoy it. I just prefer cream of wheat.)
Anyway, I was just saying that it can be just as sad when something that seems to be exaggerated turns out to be true. It's kind of the flip side of the same coin.

Heydawhatna?
I don't think I've ever had either of them.
