How do you surf the Internets?

A few days ago my Cable service went from 10mbs to 16mbs (which is probably far more than I need), so I was wondering what others have hereabouts.

I figure that low-end Cable service is probably 3-5mbs, just to clear that up. And I left the last option for wireless service, since I don't know if that really makes a difference or not. I kind of figure that wireless is still a measure of the other services.

I'm on DSL. Cable is just too expensive, where I am right now.

I have cable, because it was part of a deal with the cable company so I can watch cable TV and have Internet... yes, it is relatively expensive. I'm not sure if I can call it high-end, though. There are times where it feels incredibly slow or the cable 'messes up' for a bit. Kinda lousy service, too.

Ah well, it's what I can go with right now.

I rely on DSL, albeit a slightly better version as of late. I still get the occasional lag here and there, mostly on this site (dammit), but it's running better than it was before, at least.

Not that you care.

If I understand things correctly, your overall surfing speed is determined by your computer, your ISP, and the servers. So if you have a service that makes it possible for your computer to utilize more of its power, you'd still be at the mercy of the servers. For a long time, for instance, the MSF forums have been rather slow most of the time. And yet there are plenty of other places that I go to that load in a flash. I imagine, too, that the amount of bandwidth being used in a given area might contribute to slower speeds.

I've had a lot of problems with my Cable service. Much, much too many. I don't think that I would be exaggerating to say that we've had people out here three dozen times within the last five months. The problem always appears to be a mystery. But my mother insists on having the latest and fastest stuff since she can't live without her Second Life. And when I think about it, I can probably trace the problems back to when she first started playing that infernal game.

DSL is what I got. It's worked pretty decent for me so far. Only problem I ever get is when I'm online with the Xbox 360 and someone is running Limewire, many Myspace windows/tabs, or is downloading/uploading something. Then the lag is horrid. x_X

I have DSL and the best speed I can get is 55KB/s when streaming due to the crappy phone lines and thats when no-one lese is on. The connection is split between 4-5 people and max speed the router gets is 70KB/s, needless to say lag makes any real gaming impossible. I really wish I could have even low end cable but being in a small rural village the chances of the companies running cable near me or of the phone company improving the lines and exchange are slim

I live in a rural area, too. I'm surrounded by horses, cows and various crops. Aside from a general store at the gas station, it takes about ten minutes to reach anywhere that looks like a civilization. I guess I'm just in a lucky area since the Greenville-Spartanburg area is one of South Carolina's more bustling areas (I think).

DSL here and I've got the usual lite home variance. Cable isn't available here thanks to Alltel having been the local cable and phone company for several years and making sure there wasn't that option for internet service and keeping Charter and other cable companies away. When I had my job I had the top end business connection through dsl at my house but due to lack of funds I run it on the lower end right now. I have no problems except maybe about every two months or so it might go down for an hour or two. I have more problems with the sites I go to having their computers go down than I do my internet connection.
