"I only snake when someone else is, or I know my opponent isn't against it."

So? What's your stance on snaking?

Snaking: A term used for when a racer in the Mario Kart games powerslides multiple times through a straight path to help boost their speed.

It is highly debated on whether or not the move is fair or borderline exploitve cheating. In the end it can be both helpful and a hienderance, for if relied too much on, you will fail to win when you can't use the move.

Personally, I don't like it much because not everyone has the time, patience, or the skill to learn how to snake.

Ah... AH... I didn't know it would be benificial to use them on straightaways... But I do use them on almost every turn imaginable.

But this reminds me of what I did in the very first Mario kart game, for the SNES: I hopped around turns. Not only did it help to maintain a decent speed and tight turn (less track, more time saved), but it made it impossible to slide out of control (unless you hit a banana or something). Very useful, it was. Especially in Donut plains courses or whatever they were called, and probably the chocolate areas, too. Memories~

Well, I don't see what's wrong with snaking. If you can actually handle that sort of thing, you should be able to use it. To each their own, and if you've got what it takes, and it's not a secret/password-enacted/mod, then let skill and quirks remain skill and quirks. Personally, I think "snaking" sounds like a bit too much work. Maybe if I were desperate, but I've already beaten everything on Mario kart double-dash. *_* (And toadies rule! XD)

Snaking hmm...have to consider that for the 150's anyway it might be ok against the computer in that area but I never do that when I have to face a human opponent.

I could offer a more decisive opinion if I knew what the heck "snaking" was in the first place. :? I know abvout snaking a drain or pipe, but something tells me this is different.

Snaking is cheap and totally ruins the game.

Mario Kart is about skill, good usage of items, choosing whether to take a risky shortcut or use the safe path...

Anyone who snakes is a total n00b that has to resort to cheating because they can't play the game the right way and win.

(And yes, I know how to snake. :P)

I think you contradicted yourself. If Mario kart is about skill, and not everyone can snake (or even powerslide well), then it's obviously a skill. Cheap it may be, true, but if you've got what it takes... Use it to your advantage. At least it's not quite as annoying as facing a fighter who uses one or two of the same moves and they happen to be difficult to get through because of the character you're using. >.<

Also, it's not cheating because it's made possible via the programming, which is basically the rules for the game. But for anyone that is bothered by it, you can try and set up a handicap between you and your opponent (such as a no-snaking rule).

yeah, I'll have to agree with Nekkou here.

It's not like its a bug they are exploiting, I don't think "snaking" came to be through some programming accident.

For example, in counter-strike for half-life, there is an actual bug in one of the maps where if you throw a flash bang in just the right spot, you blind everyone in an adjacent room

Just because someone does something another cant, through no fault of the game, means that said action is "cheating"
