Which do you prefer, eh? Eh!? EH!?

I prefer catridges. Always have, always will. CDs are just too fragile and require alot more care in handling, use and exposure. And they tend to make you wait while things load, or sometimes gameplay slows down or skips. And what's more annoying than playing a game and coming to a part where it won't work because of a scratch or some other problem and it can never be worked around? I want cartridges again! U_U

CD's, or more specifically, DVD's

Of course they have their problems but the advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Gone are the days of super 10 CD RPGs and installation disks. Also now that everything is going to DVDs, movies and games and music have become much more intwined.

CD's aren't used very much anu longer anyway, Nikkou. They have been supplanted by DVD's due to larger data storage capabilities. Also we will not get cartridges back, the technology behind cartridges can't handle the amount of data necessary for modern games, the Nintendo 64 strained cartridge technology to the limit. Unless we get a new technology for how to store things in cartridges, they are simply unfeasible as a medium for large complex programs like games.

Actually, what's needed is a shift in focus away from complex things like huge graphics. Case in point: GBA games have always been in cartridges, and small ones at that. FFIV now fits on a GBA cartridge, with actually more graphics and features than the original. So I think that companies could do cartridges if they really wanted to. It's just a question of what they think will sell.

And on that note, let me get back to playing FFIV Advance...

Cd's/DVD's.

The old Cartridges are nice and all, but I prefer a disc any day.

Cd's so they can look all nice and neat and uniformed on my IKEA book cases... :p

dvd's. Cartridges are fine with handhelds, but on the home console market, they have long since been obsolete.

DVD's aren't as fragile as CD's and hold far more then both CD's and cartridges can. They are cheaper to produce and easier to transport then cartridges. Cartridge technology has gotten better, sure, but they are still an inferior medium to cd's and dvd's in far as what they can hold.

and FFIV was a cartridge game before. If it was really remade on discs, it'd have far more features then the GBA version.

DVDs. Why? Because they can improve both gameplay AND graphics, and in FPS + Fighting Games, and many action games, that is VERY important.

Just check with Hideo Kojima. (Or Dead or Alive 4...) He uses the high end processes for both good data AND good gameplay.


However, for many RPGs, etc., they definitely can have Cartidges. And Mini-CDs SUCK! They can hold Data, but ACCESSING it is the hard part! Also, movies lose extras, so DVDs remain supreme.

However, that's processer + RAM. And why 'classic' video games are best kept on Cartidges...

Considering that I have long prefered computer games to console games, CD/DVDs are my choice here.

Catridges! I love old games. I'm not to much into the newer games. (to much) ^_^

If a game is good, I don't care what format it is.

uhh, yeah, since the PS2. The newest gen has been on DVD.

and actually, the DS has better cartridges than the N64 did - the standard maximum size currently is higher than the biggest N64 games
