Captions are a form of writing, but it doesn't have any defined line that decides where a caption ends and a story with a picture begins. Other classifications of writing are measured by how many words there are or, like poetry, what style. So... If a picture is worth a thousand words, should a caption contain no more than a thousand words? What do you think?

The right word is worth a thousand pictures, too....

after a point i think it stops be a caption and becomes a short story or just a story in general.

Oh, Aura! XD If only certain words did bring up a thousand images... Like faery, fairy, fae, fay, fays, fee, fees, faeries, fairies, pixy, pixie, pixies, sprite, sprites, nymph, nymphs, nymphae, nature spirit, undine, deva, devas, diva, divas, dryad, dryads, hamadryad, hamadryads, sylph, sylphs, mermaid, mermaids, merfolk, nereide, nereides, sylvan, sylvans, yousei... And I have a ton more I could use, but they're less popular and too specific. But I've tried all of those above and I don't get a thousand of what I want. ~.~ With nymph, I get alot of young insects or something. >.<

EDIT: Yeah, Zero, but where is that point? That's what I'm wondering. If they have to be so short like the ones at Fictionmania, I would rather die. (And the captions at Fictionmania are just terrible. T.T)

Aw, just do whatever it takes to tell the story you need to tell. If it's getting out of hand on you, just submit it as a short story and make a link to the image that inspired it. Go with the flow, and see what happens.

If the text with the caption is good, who cares if it's more of a story then a caption.
