Do Wii like the new name?

my reaction...

"uh... what the crap?"

Now that I'm metioned my reaction on it, I still don't really like the name. I think it'd work for getting attention just because of the WTF factor. But that doesn't mean it's a pleasant name. In fact, I find the name more funny, not like "ARE THEY INSANE?!?!" cause it's WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!

One main problem is that I can't say the name with a straight face without following up with a WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! and laughing because the name is so funny! (not bad/stupid funny, like comical funny)

doesn't concern me in any way... but... if for some reason I was interested in console gaming and such I'd think it to be a little stupid, and already iffy with the remote control deelies...

For the most part the name doesn't matter to me. I mean, if there was a console named Dingleberry, that'd be fine with me. Might be fun to mock, but if it has good games to play on it then why complain about a name?

Of course, Wii is easier to make fun of than Revolution. The only way Revolution could have been a bad name is if it didn't revolutionize. So maybe Nintendo's underlying concern is putting itself in a position to not meet what they blatantly claim, and thus Wii, a name that does not give anyone the idea that its purpose is to revolutionize.

*Shrugs* Just having some fun musings. ;p

(And what's the second option supposed to mean? I can't grasp it at the moment.)

Have you noticed the trend of celeberities naming their children crazy things like "Audio Science", "Moonunit", "Moxie Crimefighter", or "Pilot Inspektor"? (All real, I'm afraid.)

This is just Nintendo's version of that.

*amused by the emotional reactions* Take a breath :-p It's a name...ok?

I'm fine with any name but I'm just snickering with how much press this has gotten. You think anything pedestrian would've been all over like this? Nay. Smart move I think.

Yeah, I think it's kind of stupid, but it doesn't matter, because I will continue to call it the Revolution. I really don't want to be talking on the phone, and be like "Yeah, I'm playing with my Wii"

Yucky . . .

The Darfur genocide has been going on right around the same time. How come people don't care about that? There is another holocaust going on right now and people are worried about something as petty as the name of a console, as if it changes anything whatsoever. The crap going on in Africa right now is something that makes Hitler look like freaking Shirley Temple yet no one but me seems to be talking about it. There is already a thread on this topic in the video game room anyway.

Anybody want to see some pictures of the corpses?

By the way, this poll was poorly put together -- it looks like you don't even care about the opinions you get or how they're organized. You couldn't have done a worse job short of making the people who vote options you disagree with look stupid.

People who constantly bitch and moan about the Wii's name now find themselves ranked just below graphics whores in my list of "People involved in the game culture who have a clue as to what makes anything good".

Or you could say you're playing on your Nintendo? :P

Seriously, the name doesn't bother me.

Do I think it was it a brilliant press move on Nintendo's part? Oh yeah, just look how fast news of its name circulated.

Regardless, the actually name means very little to me since I've already made up my mind about the new Nintendo System, but that's just me.

Thats becouse us humans rather to be blind and deaf about things that do not affect us directly (although it may indirectly), polution, war, poor people, etc, etc, etc. Someone else can solve that...

I think I can accept where I'm ranked in any list of yours with a certain degree of equanimity, Nina. ;D
That means 'I doooon't caaaare.'

I have protested and will continue to protest Darfur, but I'm more than capable of protesting the Wii name as well right here.

*repeats what I said about how "Revolution" is a scarier name to those intimidated by controllers and the video game culture in general where the system is supposed to bring people together blah blah blah blah*

Ironically, Beyond, you're higher on my list because I respect people who can resist the siren's song of the newest and shiniest recycled crap this industry is now infamous for.

But it's just for that reason I have some faith in Nintendo and their console, whatever the hell they choose to call it. And I will continue to make fun of fanboys who need a real cause to believe in.
