Mmm...Well since I didn't feel like using other I went with the beautiful, intelligent, sophisticated, and sadistic Drow. (Ah I almost forgot to mention the fact that they are short, superior to other elves, and white/silver haired.)

Faeries. No question for me. And the other races mentioned are included under the faery definition. XD;; Well, dwarves and hobbits may not be, but under old lore they certainly can be in the land of the fae as fae.

But with or without wings, I prefer the mostly-human-looking faeries and doesn't matter what their height is. Most can shapeshift anyway. ^_^;

Faeries are awesome. Vote for them or ye'll be pinched to death! ;p

Of standard fantasy species i tend to prefer humans. They are the only ones that have yet to become a parody of themselves. Also they are the only ones that are used to express something other than standard fantasy themes and content which gets old after some time.

I wasn't sure where to vote for 'gigantic ant species from that one movie'
so, I picked other.
Seriously, though, GIGANTIC ANTS. That's like, 3 inches of plating:P

My money's on fairies. Or Satyrs. They're pretty nifty too.

I had to go with faeries. I've been a fae aficionado my whole life. I do like other options as well, though. :)

I have to say humans. Most of the time. In fantasy, humans tend to be either stalwart last defenders against unbearable odds, or pompous and foolish jerks who mess themselves up. In the second case, I have to fall back on goblins or other greenskins. Nothing beats the bliss of ignorance.

This is true. Goblins, dwarves, etc. were originally considered denizens of faerie. Even elves. Up until the Elizabethan era, the terms "elf" and "faerie" were both used for the fae, and in fact the former was for some time more common. The elves as we know them in fantasy today were inspired by the Sidhe (pronounced "shee") of Celtic faerie folklore. They were considered the nobles of faerie, and the "kings" and "queens" you hear about in the older stories were all of sidhe stock.

Dwarves actually do stuff. They mine, they hunt, they forest. All elves do are sit around and look pretty and talk about how much they love nature. Humans do stuff too, but Dwarves do it better.

eh... humans... simply cause tech they are the basis of all other humaniod fantasy creatures... most others races have some weird extreme of human personality.
