Well, not exactly. However, it is a battle of the duds. The focus is on style, though good art is a handy way to more clearly illustrate exactly what the style is. Of course, there are other ways of discerning what makes an outfit good, other than what pleases the eye: such as functionality; comfort (and if it happened to be an iron maiden outfit, clearly a masochist would love that ;p); practicality; usefulness; versatility; and maintenance (such as avoiding certain places and activities that risks getting it soiled or damaged). And all that. Gwen can probably think of more, and whap me on the head.

If you have some questions before you make your vote, don't be afraid to ask them. Or lazy. ;p

Anyway, the first up is Gwen's! And then mine. Once you've seen what we've got, vote whose outfit you like the most, using whatever perspective that you'd like. I just hope that my descriptions and details make up for what my graphic illustrations fall dreadfully far from. X_X

Indeed. I don't think anyone can get a mental image of my outfit. It's mostly for non-superficial stuff, and I'm not good using the words needed to describe something like that.

Oh, I just thought of a way to look at it. It's like a chiton and himation, clothing in disguise. You know, like transformers. Except they're clothes, and they transform into other clothes. <.<; Well, the himation part does, anyway... It acts like a cloak, cover for the sun and, to some degree, the wind. Some can be made out of material to protect against the rain, and extend that protection to a few other heads (especially children). And if you don't want your torso covered like that for whatever reason, you can remove it and put it around your waist, as a skirt. It's pretty flexible, though how flexible is determined by the material of the himation-like part, mostly.

Maybe. While you've got what it takes, I don't think anyone's ready for anything different/unfamiliar from someone like me. Especially from a Scandinavian lumberjack-viking zombie, such as I appear to be. Heck, even my appearance is better suited for being an inventor; I'd never make it as a designer in any sense. XD

Okay, we can do that. **dumps a bucket of water over you** Okay, now you can slosh around. And if appearance is what helps you make it as a designer, I'm out of luck too. A haute couture build this ain't. Which is something I'd like to see change, but I'm not counting on that happening. Especially as I've currently got some entries in that design contest on ANN, and after seeing the other (reams of) entries, I have a snowball's chance of winning a prize.... Depressing, really. Though you can see my other designs via the link and instructions in my art thread, if you feel so inclined.

Yeah, I saw what you had entered. Doesn't seem so bad in plenty regards. But, yeah, if artistic solidarity in a style is required, the expression and presentation probably won't pull much weight as they should. Of course, I didn't see what exactly was being contested. But, so long as it's about displaying fashion that can be identified, you should have a decent chance, I would think. My pictures above? Wouldn't stand a chance. Without my wordage, no one would know what in the world was there. XD

Okay, open your mouth, and I'll pour a bucket of water down your gullet. Then you can slosh a-plenty. I'm glad someone thinks I have a decent chance, anyway.... After looking at the other entries, I sure don't. They'll go for the ones loaded with extremely fine detail and really wacky features, you mark my words. Even though they said they wanted to see designs that were interesting, but looked actually wearable. That's what I tried to provide. But it's the crazy ones that'll be awarded, no matter whether they could actually be worn (or in some cases, even made without inserted wire or other engineering) or not. You'll see.

And you may be right. If it's wearable, they'll probably prefer something outrageously different than anything that even half-heartedly follows a trend. of course, in my outrageous and non-trendy works, I'm the exception. ^_^;

Okay, then I shall pour rum down your gullet! Then you shall slosh in more ways than one. Heck, I don't think the design even has to be actually wearable, so long as it's outrageous. They did another design contest a year or so ago which I entered, and the final ones chosen were largely quite bizarre, and at least one looked like once you got it on you wouldn't be able to move at all, because it had all this weird stuff draped all over it that would be disrupted. So yeah, the whacked-out highly experimental stuff is what's going to get the win. Me, when I design something, I try to make it something a real person could put on with reasonable ease, at least to some degree move around in it, and not look utterly ridiculous in it. I guess the "high fashion" mind doesn't want to take this into account. Professional models on the run don't have to wear that stuff for very long, and they're not realistic anyway.
