Lookie! Another picture! Not in the same vein as the last two, I'm sure some of you will be disappointed to hear.... But it DOES pertain to the board, though. See, I've recently joined a roleplay wherein we're all playing the offspring of past video game characters. (Say, I think people can still join via private e-mail, go check the regular roleplaying room to see....) But I've done a design for my character for that. Her name is Li Hua, and she's the daughter of Xianghua, one of the characters from Soul Caliber II. But enough beating around the bush. Here's the image!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/ ... li_hua.jpg

The name I chose for her means "pear blossom," so I was trying to convey both pears and their flowers in motif and color scheme here. Her hair came out rather redder than I had originally planned, but it looks good, so I guess I can't complain too much, can I? This was something of challenge, trying to get across the vibe of the past character and the feel of a video game character without directly copying a past look. But a base description wasn't enough; I had all these details I wanted to make plain, and an image was the best way to communicate it. I overall like her, though. Maybe I'll do another image sometime in the future- characters of this type do tend to have two to three outfits to choose from, after all- but I think it'll be a while if I do. This one was enough for me, for the moment! I hope someone, at least, likes it. Wonder if ther GM will give me experience points for extra character work? ;)

Heh. Nice work, Guen.
I've noticed that your art; the characters themselves, give either the illusion that they are tall, or, are actually tall(XD) I like that ^_^
Keep it up!

Well, this girl's supposed to be on the short side, so I'm guessing it's illusion in this instance. I guess it's the pose. Or maybe just the fact that anime girls tend to have long legs.... But as long as people like it, I think I'll keep it up. Glad you approve! :)

Yeah, it's definitely the legs. And the fact that she's a little thin, but, that's to be expected.
If she was wearing vertical stripes...there might be a height illusion problem :P

Oh, yeah, the lengthening vertical stripes- gotta remember that one. ;) Oh, it might also be that she's standing on her toes. That'll naturally make anyone look a little taller than they really are.

Well, that is great. I am a fan of that series, and I can see her being in it. I wish I could draw that well.

You could see her fitting in the series? Wow! Then I succeeded! One of my goals for this was to make her look like someone out of a game like that. :) And a few years ago, this image wouldn't have come out nearly so well. I've just spent a lot of the past few years steadily working to improve my style. It's been a lot of effort and independent study. :) But if you ever have an image you'd like to see done, just let me know and I'll give it a try, okay?

Another design awaits you! This one has a story behind it. See, I daresay a lot of you have noticed that a certain thread in the Muffin Room went crazy last Saturday and became something of a fashion-related rpg (and has escalated in other directions later, but we won't go there just now...). Gothic Lolita fashion was the primary focus. Ultimately, it resulted in Des becoming a cute chibi girl and dressed up all cutely for us. Well, a general consensus was reached that this was a notion that needed a physical rendering. As I seem to be the person here who knows the most about the nuances of the style (including designing original outfits), I took it upon myself to accomplish this. And earlier today, I finished. Here she is, in all her stylish Victorian glory!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/ ... lolita.jpg

I know it's not perfect; I had trouble with the facial features. I'm just not good at the chibi look, I'm afraid.... :? I wanted to give her a chagrined expression (due to his/her initial resistance in the thread to being dressed up), but I just couldn't get it to click, so I had to put her in her now-happy state instead. But the eyes still look weird, to me. But I really liked the outfit design, and so decided to make the best of it.... Yeesh, I haven't used this much pink in a drawing since I was I think about seven. :? But the style called for it, here. Oh, and if any of you who are much better at the chibi style than me want to do your own version of this idea, it won't bother me any. In fact, I could even point you towards some good web sites for attire references and inspiration.... But I'll be quiet now. Hope you like this, even if it's not perfect by any means.

I hoped you'd like it. I have a few more in mind inspired by that thread, yes indeed. I plan to do at least a couple of the fashions I dreamed up (I've done intial renderings on my lunch breaks at work, but they need re-doing before I consider them workthy of being colored), plus a shot of the camera-kiss. ;) Stay tuned for further developments....

I agree, looks cute. Reminds me to Hina Ichigo's outfit from Rozen Maiden.
