[Writing] Choose Your Own Adventure: A Guide
Posted: Fri Apr 02, 2010 1:17 am
This is a guide on how to properly create and contribute to an adventure topic.
Stage One
All that one has to do, to start an adventure topic, is to write "Adventure" in the subject, followed by a title. Example:
Adventure: The Age Progression Epidemic
Adventure topics do not need to start with a basic premise. You can start with, say, a normal person and go in all kinds of directions with them. In the case that you can't properly express your premise thoroughly enough in the subject or body of the post, then express them in parenthesis, at the beginning of your post. Example:
(This is about a group of witches that have a club in their high school, so try to keep the story revolved around them.)
Stage Two
There are several things that one needs to do when they make a post in an adventure.
Please use this image as a reference to the steps below:
1: Click that little piece of paper (1) so the address of that exact post appears in the address bar (2) of your browser, or right-click it and choose to "copy link location." This is important for the next step.
2: At the start of every post, you must put a "back" link (3) to the post that you're responding to, using the address that you got in the previous step. This will help with the adventure's navigation, and it will make it easy for me (and any others who may replace/join me in the future) to do the job required in step 4.
3: Write a subject (4) that gives someone an idea of what they're going to read in their post, because it is needed so I can edit what's written there into the post you're responding to, which you can see at the end of a post (5).
4: If you followed the previous steps, then I can add a link (5) to the post that you responded to. You see three links in the example to illustrate that three posts have responded to it, taking the adventure in three different directions from that point.
Stage Three
You should write at least three complete sentences when you contribute a post to an adventure. It's also recommended that you write something legible, so try to check it for problems in spelling, grammar and punctuation. Everything else is up to you, so try to have fun when exercising your creativity.
