I've oftened wondered why Christians need some kind of misleading symbol for their holidays. It makes understanding them a lot more difficult. I remember asking "Okay, so Jesus was ressurected, but what does the bunny have to do with anything?"

The answer is it doesn't.

i wouldn't blame the religion more along the lines of the commecialization that the world does to market good cause the creation of the easter bunny and the candies.

Oh, the association of rabbits with Easter long predates commercialism. It's another instance of pagan traditions being melded with Christian ones in order to more readily convert said pagans. In fact, the majority of contemporary Easter imagery is more pagan than Christian. It was originally a seasonal fertility festival, heralding the arrival of spring and the return of growing things. What do baby animals, eggs, and flowers all represent? Growth and fertility, of course. The original meaning has sort of faded away into this vague sense of "Huh?" that many people now have when they actually think about it. I remember last year being in a bookstore and seeing a seasonal display including a children's picture book entitled "The Bunny Who Found Easter." I swear my mind made a veritable boing! And for some reason I found it almost funny, the paradox being so blatant. At least to me, anyway.

The month of April was originally dedicated to the pagan fertillity godess Bede. The bunny is belived to be a remnant of a fertillity celebration in that month. Also, the whole egg thing is related to that too.

So, no. Jesus was not a bunny who died on the cross to give us delicious Cadsbury Eggs, although I must confess, the picture did give me a giggle or two.
The awakening of the mind gives way to a world of possibilities.

That's probably because Christians didn't conceive of it in the first place.

Note: Any blending of traditions is called a syncretism. Thank you Cultural Anthropology!

For example: Voodoo (Combination of african tribal, native american, and catholic,) Christmas Day (Mithras' birthday,) Christmas Tree (Yule log, although technically this isn't a part of Christian religion like Christmas Day is.)

So on and so forth.

New art!

Two drawings I made in History class instead of taking notes.

http://www.deviantart.com/view/32434776/
Drawn instead of taking notes on Galileo.

http://www.deviantart.com/view/32434494/
Drawn instead of taking notes on Martin Luther.

Frankly, I think the Pope is awesome. A decrepit old man in a fantastic costume whose judgement is infallible and commands hundreds of millions of people? What could be better?
My art

Zeph: Why would the nations of the world spend gazillions of dollars to punch through dimensions just for sexy elf chicks?

Don't forget that if you don't believe in him, you will either go to hell, or have every Catholic who knows you try to get you to convert. Even if they are nice guys otherwise.

They will? You must live in a rather more converting happy place than i do. Here it is only communists who tries to get you to convert all the time. Well some atheists do too. Religious people don't though, they have enough of a time avoiding ridicule to not go out of their way to annoy others by trying to convert them. For that matter the catholics i have met don't even like the pope, neither the current nor the previous one. They do belong to the liberal wing of the catholic church (most european catholics do).

I don't care who you are, if you don't like John Paul II overall then you're probably not the greatest person around. ;D

If you don't like an old conservative man who spent much of his time fighting contraceptives, homosexuals or any kind of modernization of the dogma of the roman catholic church? I am sorry but i can't see why he is that great a person. I mean it is not like he is Mother Theresa (who i somehow has a suspicion wasn't as great as she was portrayed as) or Jesus (who i likewise think has gotten a better reputation than he deserves).

Small peanuts compared to everything else, Terra.

As for Mother Theresa, faulting her is rather difficult, you wouldn't be able to find...well...anything. ;D Unless it's those small peanuts, of course.

As for Hey-zeus himself, that was 2000 years ago. I don't trust any story that old.
