Do clothes make the person?

Postby Mitera Nikkou » Tue Jul 18, 2006 12:34 am

Yeah, you know what option that I chose. XD

Of course, if I bothered with it, I would say that it is most of the time. Because people have to use clothing to put on an identity for other people, in the work place, in places of faith, for ceremonies, traditions and all of that stuff. It does depend on who's seeing the person wearing the clothing as far as its meaning is concerned, but, ultimately, I think there's an overemphasis in the modern world to assume a bullshit identity to get through life, or to assume an identity (that's required for whatever you may want to get involved with) as your own. In my opinion, it does more bad than good. Makes things more stressful and redundently complicated. At least to me, it does. So says the one that would rather not wear clothing. <.<;

Clothes are somtimes important but even a pretty gown won't hide a horrible personality. And a coating of muck won't disperse a razor sharp wit and genteel act.

Pretty much what Kara said. It can influence what you think for sure, but it isn't the only factor.

Where I work, we have to go out and talk to people at different locations, which can range from rodeos to the floor of the state senate. If I walked into a rodeo in a 3 piece suit, I'd probably be laughed out of there. If I walked in to ask a politician for an interview in jeans and cowboy boots (unless he happened to be mayor of a farming town or sommat), then he wouldn't give me the time of day. First impressions are the most important, and clothing plays a big part of it.

The only times I would say clothing makes a person is when the clothing is specially tied into what they are doing.

Examples of this would be weddings and formal ceremonies, and then acting and such.

I suppose clothes would make the person if it's the first time you are meeting them; The first thing yousee is their clothes, and many people make guesses about their character by looking at what they wear...

I chose sometimes. Clothes only serve to accentuate the person, they help you get a better idea, but the are not the end all beat all of definition.

most likely sometimes, from the formal occasions like wedding where the gown helps make the bride and such, casuel and work setting i don't see as much of a effect.

I say it's a pretty good fifty-fifty. For instance, there are certain sorts of clothes I have to wear to work, that which is deemed "professional." And there was a specific sort of garb I had to wear in my brother's wedding, delineating me as a bridesmaid. But on a casual, day to day basis, my attire doesn't matter much. As long as I'm comfortable, I am who I am no matter what I have on.

That's what mud and foliage is for, to prevent such a thing. :3

Besides, what good is the nether region? It needs some shedding light upon once in a while, anyway! *_*
