It's a fair question... but I wouldn't be asking it at the fair ... much less trying to make my taxi fair by asking it. cus it wouldn't be fair to the mimes. ^_^

Um.. well most of the dvd box sets I have have both original and english dubbing as well as english subtitles. I tend to mix and match how I watch them until I find the best representation I want to see. I also prefer my anime to be dressed in business casual.

I generally find fan subs to be...better than official subs, but, I also like to have the option to have an english dub when possible.
Not saying I'll use it, but, when I don't want to read alot that day, it helps :P

Never been able to get into nabbing fansubs from the Internet. Well, I did try a few times not too long ago, but, of course, the torrents were dead. No hime-chan no ribbon for me. Y.Y

Otherwise, I prefer getting box sets that have subtitles (I don't really care if it's dubbed as well). I just get what I can afford, and boxed sets (or a collection) are cheaper. I recently got 675 minutes worth of Galaxy angel for $60, for instance.

So, boo dead fansubs. Hooray cheap box sets! :P

It really depends, with me. I really like boxed sets, but they tend to be expensive unless it's a short show. So mostly I buy one volume at a time. Language option, I'm not too fussy about. Your average dvd has both anyway. So I can just watch whichever one I feel like watching for that specific series. I really don't get the hardcore language people. It's not that big a deal, to me. **shrug**

I like box sets the best. That way I don't have to wait for them to put out there next overpriced thing for 4-3 episodes.

Also I like the Japanese language with english subtitles. I don't know why but to seems to me that the Japanes lnaguage had a bit more passion then our english language. The english language seems to me more relax some times when dubbing over Japanes language. (This is not always the case).

Boxed set with subtitles for the win! Though, most DVDs give you the option of dubbing too these days.

I love fansubs, but I voted for Boxset, since theres nothing nicer then a fresh anime box plus your supporting the anime so eh its good to go!

boxset's with english dubs and sub's

I also like to watch fansubs, to see how they decided to translate, because there are little naunces that change semantics of the dialouge.

comparing is fun (I like the fansub'd version of FFVII:AC better than the official sub)

For me, the choice betwen sub and dub depends on the company doing the dub and the anime in question. Heathen though I may be, I prefer dubs in general, because I like to do other things while watching anime (chatting on IRC, working on stuff on my PC etc) and dialogue I can understand makes that so much easier. Plus, dubs have become so much better in the past few years, it's no longer cringe-inducing to listen to them ^^

As for packaging, boxed sets are so much better - they look neater, keep a series together, they have more art without logos and blurbs covering them up, and if they are thinpacked they take up so much less space on my shelf, which is always good. Admittedly, very few series are released as boxed sets over here in the UK, which is kind of annoying, but it does make browsing and trying out series easier without having to invest in the whole thing in one go.
