Basically, make your choice based on your own perceptions. I'll save mine for later since I don't want to run the risk of tainting anyone with my logic. XD

I go for the variance of factors. Sometimes like does attract like. A degree of compatability is only natural, like enjoying the same sort of things and so forth. But by the same token, though, often people are drawn to traits they don't have in themselves, like someone more quiet going for a person more outgoing than themselves. There are times when opposites compliment. Then, when you get right down to it, there's biology and simple hormones. Some of this stuff is purely fundamental, born of social conditioning (i.e. the media telling us what we're "supposed" to find attractive and some people being sheep and believing it), or, at the most fundamental at all, the subtle urges of reproduction. That's where a lot of attraction comes from, when you get right down to it, even though people tend to forget about that these days. So yeah, there's a multitude of possible influences in this area. You just never know.

I have no idea really. I just go back to play-yard logic that says, "girls have coodies". ^_^

I'm all for the opposites attract theory. While I don't believe that you have to be opposites to be in love nor do I think that people with huge-giagantic-so-irecconsilably-nightmarishly-big sized differences should necisarily hook up. I just think that people naturally are attrated to the traits they lack. That's part of the reason people are always talking about how folks marry the parents. Has to do with imprinting your anima/animus and all that jazz, but I digress. Yeah.

I'll go with opposites attract.
The awakening of the mind gives way to a world of possibilities.

Opposite things makes you exist.

Basically I think that you need both extremes to exist.

But opposites doesn't really need to like each other...

Did I hear good and evil? without evil there is no good and otherwise.

I go for the varying factors thing, but usually like attracts similar, with all sorts of varying exceptions.

I went for the varying. It's pretty much the same as 'random' though, only it pretends there is some things.

People have to be similar enough to share common interests, and different enough to have things that seperate them. Heck, my girlfriend rides horses, and I've barely touched one! Then again, we spent a good portion of our time together last weekend with me playing Viewteful Joe, and her playing Valkyrie Profile.

Alright, now I'll toss my hair-brained idea into this. XD

I went with "like attracts like." I went with that because, essentially, with all things different, that difference makes them all alike. And, when you get down to the core of existence, it has to remain the same for it to continue. It's kind of like everything being the offspring of itself, so it's like a mother embracing all of her children, the arms of the mother bearing all traits of the children, and the children, while each different despite plenty being identical, are held in place by the arms that keep them together.

If you can make sense of that, I shall loot you. :P

There has to be something that remains constant for change to be meaningful, or the idea that is expressed in the sentiminet, "You're unique, just like everybody else?"

Also, that all humanity, by being part of the same species, and similar cultures, has a constant core of something alike? We have two arms, two legs, two eyes, a nose, etc. (Barring accidents.)

Everything has to be related or they don't fit into the system, and thus don't exist. By being the same, they can be different: because they can connect or conflict, and thus express individuality while, at the same time, being a part of a whole. Even if there were two snowflakes that were identical in every way possible, they'd still be different because they're effecting their own space; one may land on someone's nose while the other falls to the ground.

So, yes, a constant change. I imagine that the universe is best described as an oxymoron. ;p In that way, like attracts like. If it didn't, the universe wouldn't be able to sustain itself, because of all of the unique factors beyond two opposing forces. By making everything different, they all share something in common no matter what, and thus belong together. If it were strictly opposites attracting, the universe would be quite different. Like attracting like can extend into anything, which is why we have such a plethora of different lifestyles that people have, even beyond bi/hetero/homosexual.

While the third option in the poll works, I think the second is closer to the core, or the core. While the universe gives us possibilities, those possibilities can be harnessed and repeated because the same conditions produce the same results; not because the conditions oppose, but rather because they can find something in common and work together to produce that result again and again when the same conditions are applied.

I wonder why I spend my time thinking this kind of stuff. ^_^;

I think it is dangerous to say any kind of definite thing being the core. Indeed it can be hard to tell and seems to vary between people. Also it would be dangerous to discount the importance of circumstances. Shared danger or stress increases the likelihood of two people becoming attracted to each other. Likely there are others. In addition to that there is the question about whether you are actually looking or not and all the social factors we get taught. Anyway, in the end it is impossible to say that either of them are true as there are too many variables, though some differences are harder to reconcile than others strong religious or political differences for example.

That all fits in with conditions. If another you lived the same life as you had (without anything in that alternate universe being different), the result would be the same as in this universe. Just because we have trouble controlling, understanding and discovering every minute detail at a certain point and time doesn't mean that we don't know enough to know that we can isolate factors and produce the same result using those same factors each time. Even things considered "paranormal" can be repeated for the same result, once the conditions are better understood. Humans have progressed so much with technology because they understand that this plus that will have a result; and once they find a result, they try to repeat it and eventually do so.

I don't think it's dangerous at all. What I can't perceive and control, I know can still be repeated under the exact same conditions. If the only difference in two universes were the skies being different colors, that'd make it impossible for either world in their respective universes to run on the exact same course. So, while many things in this universe seem unrepeatable, the constant change ensures the possibility no matter how great the odds are, either in this universe or any other (if there are any, which could be possible ;p).

It's kind of funny when I think that there may be another "me" typing this exact post at this exact time somewhere else in existence. You'd think that one of me would be enough. ^_^;

I just remembered a statement I made earlier: "Everybody has at least one parallel twin in this world."
(There are many ways to say this but, balance of lifestyles are one of the things this planet breathes on)
Therefore, I suffer so somebody else can enjoy and blah blah blah.
