Never said that I did. ^_^; I've pretty much resigned myself in the same way, but I do still think about how I'd feel if I ever did manage to get anywhere beyond being a solitary unit.

Of course, I wouldn't worry about your looks. And I won't. You can, if you want (just as I do mine). ;p But I really don't look for other people for their outer appearance. I know a girl that's twice my weight, but (when I get a chance to talk to her on the rare occassions that I go back over to where she lives) I have a nice time with her. We share what anime and manga that we have, too. Of course, for both realistic and practical reasons, becoming a pair wouldn't work out. So being friendly is fine for us.

Oh, I don't, either. I came to the realization a while back that appearance doesn't matter to me, at least not beyond basically being clean and reasonably well-groomed. That's as much for hygiene as anything else. But I've discovered that what the other person looks like really isn't all that important to me; what matters is intelligence, shared interests, sense of humor, and a general open-mindedness about the world at large. But sadly, the rest of the world is more superficial than us. Most people, from what I can tell, don't look beyond that outer shell and thus can't find out what you're really like because there's such a rigid notion of what you "should" look like. And heck, even those few men who aren't scared off by a full-figured female (that's another thing; between that, intelligence, and martial arts training, in many cases I might simply be too intimidating as well as phsyically unappealing), society works to make men who don't fall in with the idea of wanting the model or Hollywood star starvation look feel bad about that, and thus they're typically too shy to come out with it anyway. So we all go in circles. :? But at least I know you wouldn't care, if we were friends in real life. :D

Well, we can pretend to be friends in real life. ;p

I think that one of the biggest reasons that people become so pidgeon-holed in thought, is because of how the system pidgeon holes people in general. Lots of people would like to live other kinds of lives, but they have to settle for things considered less-special than others, even if those jobs are the kind that also make the system work as well as it does. In the end, they don't have time to focus on anything other than what keeps a roof over their head and all that, so they end up putting their focus, primarily, on superficial values rather than deeper meanings.

Fortunately for me (I guess), I haven't had a job, and haven't been able to get into the system once I got myself out of school. It just doesn't work for me. And the longer that I've been outside of it, the more I realized that I didn't want to get into such a thing. It's just grotesque. So I've more or less become a silly idealist with a loose grip on reality. Or maybe I'm the one witht he strong grip. XD;;

Pretending to be real-life friends sounds good. :) Wanting to be outside the system is all well and good, yes. Life is in many ways too systematic, and we're encouraged to put, say, the high-paying job above the one we'll be happier doing, because money is more important than joy (or more accurately, it's the idea that money will equal happiness). I blame the old Puritan work ethic for a lot of that. But by the same token, I see the need to be practical about it. I don't like being pigeon-holed or told I have to work the old eight hour day, forty-hour week, living for the job, yatta yatta yatta, either. But by the same token, I want to be able to survive independently and procure geek stuff. So this means compromising and dealing with the system, even if I don't like it. I do want to ultimately break free of it to some degree, in that I sure don't want to be a paper-pusher at a desk for my entire life, but you need more training to do that because of the system as well.... But this is a greater topic than that of this survey. Sorry for meandering.

Nothing wrong with meandering. At least in my topics. XD Well, so long as it's not completely out of the way and never started with the original topic.

Anyway, that's why we must overthrow the current system, with something better! :O The better our environment, the better chance of better perceptions and relationships. But I'll leave out all of those details for another topic or something... I'm sure everyone (by now) know my disfavor for capitalism and a free market. Don't let the words butter you up; its the definition that matters. And anything with "free" in it doesn't necessarily mean that it's the best, or even good. And now for me to stop derailing my own thread. Do not follow in my footsteps, peoples! It's perilous! @_@

I've been thinking about something Guen. Now you have talked so much about how unattractive you are to the general public for a long time, it really does make me curious to see how you actually look. You might very well be the one around here who has talked the most about her looks so i guess that is only a natural curiousity, though i doubt it is as bad as you say, especially since people are really more diverse in their tastes than it is normally portrayed as being.

I'm going to have to go with what Sweet said on this subject, 'cept I deviate a little from it. I THINK I'm supposed to be the knight in shining armor, (or dark armor as the case may be), who comes and sweeps said girl off her feet. But, as it turns out, I'm hideously shy and can't breathe right around most women. (Yes Nikkou, I have gynephobia. XD) But they don't want old fashioned gentlemen and romantic ideals. They want punks. So, unless I get out of America, or find a strange girl, I'm single.
Ohahaha. Oh, Xia.

Hey, hey. Chivalry may be on it's last leg bouncing up and down dangerously close to a pt of giant spikes, but there will always be people looking for a kind and curteous man. I've seen with some teenage, young women that sometimes they have to date wild guys/punks to realize what they're looking for, but then there are women that that straight off know they want that kinda thing.

Still, what you said does hold true. In America especially women can lean towards the bad boy, the tough guy. And, while the knight may gaurd, protect and serve a princess, she often inevitably ends up with a king or prince...
The awakening of the mind gives way to a world of possibilities.

I don't want punks.... I wouldn't know what to do with one. I'd rather have a nice geek guy into gaming and/or anime. Problem is, these guys tend to react like you.... They get shy. :( But then, you should have seen me a few months back, the one and only time someone ever tried to flirt with me (that I noticed; I am quite clueless, in that area). My mind went completely numb. I was like, "Duh?..." Kicked myself about it for ages afterwards. But if you guys really do want to see a picture of me, I guess I could post one....

I'm very shy too. Mostly because I'm not very good looking(not at all actually) and I'm probably scared of rejection. But I voted that I would find one one day, and I really hope I will.

Guen, Musa; tell them you girls don't bite.

They just have fun with our pity attempts.

Not if it is something that you don't really want or feel bad about doing or anything along those lines. It's just if it isn't then i most certainly want to see one to see if you are speaking the truth about how you look.

Gwen:

I know someone that's 100% punk, in just about every conceivable way. I honestly wouldn't recommend him to a girl unless she was: a drinker; smokes grass; doesn't mind other drugs on occassion; likes a variety of music in the punk and metal arena; how she dresses probably wouldn't matter too much, but I imagine dark colors at the very least (combat boots optional, and grunge appreciated); has a tattoo or two; enjoyed mosh pits, since there'd likely be one at each show and he likes to be in them; doesn't mind having occassional sex (this guy's actually a sort of puppy dog when it's a relationship).

I don't want to seem like I'm pressuring you on the picture stuff, but I'm always interested in seeing people cosplay/roleplay. Gwen, the knight in shining armor! :O Well, it fits with this environment. <.<;

Beyond:

The girls don't have to bite. For one, Musa's taken. For another, it only takes some non-notice of the shy person's small attempt to bowl many of them over. All without the girl realizing. ^_^; Of course, it doesn't just work on the guy's end: girls can initiate interest first if they wanted.

Don't make me play the role of the LUUUUUUUUV Doctah. :twisted:
