If humans were on the brink of irreversible self-destruction, what would the aliens do if they decided to make themselves known to all humans before they were doomed?

None of them really fit what i think, though i have to say that the first one and the third one from the end sounds the most likely. If they wanted to conquer the earth why not just wait unless they wanted the humans for something I.E. the third from the end? And i doubt they would care all that much about the animals or that humans are really that impressive at destruction compared to aliens who have travelled far enough to get here.

If they're alturistic and don't have some stupid "Prime Directive" we should be fine, or we'll just kill them and take their ships, ALL HAIL THE TERRAN EMPIRE!

It depends.
I mean, if they were like the Zerg, they'd use us for the third from the bottom...
If they were closer to Xel'Naga or Protoss, they'dd save us and then study us. More like the first.

They would probably be peaceful. Any culture that advanced would have realized war is useless and try to spread peace throughout the galaxy.
