What Manga is this?

And, in my view, this is optimism:
"No. A sword is a weapon. No matter what pretty names you give it, swordsmanship is the way to kill. Kaoru-dono speaks as one who has never bloodied her hands in combat. She maintains a sweet naive lie. But in the face of such awful truth, the naive lie she tells is so much better. If this one had a wish, it would be that her lie would become the truth of this world."

Cheesy..very cheesy, heh if I made my own "h8r-manga" it wouldn't be full of many boring dialogue..(put at least something funny in the background!)

Rurouni Kenshin quote ^_^
Optimism is for those who have never felt true pain.

Good for them.
Tell me, for what price would you give up hope?
Would you follow the will o' the wisp of the brightest morning star?
How far?

Ah, but you have no idea what was in the next panel! (You gotta give them a chance to stop laughing, and catch their breath...so they can start laughing again! Otherwise, they might forget to breathe.)

As for "Optimism being for those who have never felt true pain", can someone not transcend true pain? (And what IS true pain...Or is that another quote?)

True pain...Hard to explain, I suppose. It may vary...under many circumstances.
I could reword it into something that is easier to explain, something hat makes more sense when appropriated toward a larger group, rather than an individual:
Optimism is naive. Living optimistically is self-destructive: Things will rarely ever go your way, and when they don't, your optimism will betray you...

Actually, I would argue that living optimistically is only self-destructive if you are committed to your expectations. If you are flexible, optimism is a lot more pleasant than pessimism, as you can take the good things into account, take advantage of them, and bounce back when things don't turn out as you'd like.

Now, I find that optimism works best if you take it from a pessimistic point of view. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst and all that. Cataclysmicly bad things happen now and again and deluding yourself into thinking that life's candy and roses isn't going to help you.

I'm paranoid, neurotic and conditioned to be always expecting to get mauled by someone or hit by flying projectiles, but that doesn't mean I can't be happy or enjoy life.

From what Kuro showed, it seems like optimism is an excuse to do whatever you want to get what you want. ;p

Personally, I think that being optimistic, exclusively, isn't a good thing. It's a real mood killer when you get your hopes up and have them crash and burn. Pessimism is good when used in equal (or near-equal) proportion to optimism. It's pretty much what Sweets said. If there weren't any pessimism involved, we'd be up terd creek without a paddle if we didn't have an emergency parachute, if the main were to somehow fail. While the people that use the main parachutes are optimistic that it will deploy, and that it will work, there's still the chance that it won't. (And then there's a chance that the emergency won't work either... But that's asking for more precaution than people are willing to work with. <.<; ) Now, if only there was such pessimism with passenger flights... So there was a way for everyone to abandon the plane instead of going down with it when it does. O.o;

*nods* I believe that the optimism of Sweet Sophia is the one that I follow. Because if you always simply fear for the worst, and do not accept that things could ever be good, or wait for the 'other shoe to drop', then it will eventually destroy you.
